Unrelenting Vengeance II

"F*ck! Another failure!" A man kicks his chair across a dark room. "Where's my report!?" he demanded from the sole survivor.

"S-sir, there were d-demons!" the survivor told the angry man.

"Demons? Demons!? What demons!? They've been dead for decades now! What do you think you're doing by lying to me!?"

"P-please believe me," the survivor begged. There were indeed demons and they wiped out their entire team within seconds.

"If you really did go up against demons then can you explain to me how you're still alive!?" Had it been demons, there was no way they would have allowed for a survivor to come back to him. The survivor was obviously lying.

"I-I"

"I'll have your head." The man stood up and grabbed an axe that was lying next to the table.

"Have mercy s-sir!"

"I don't tolerate liars." The man raised the axe and brought it down on the survivor but the attack was deflected by a magic barrier.

"He's telling the truth," a third figure walked into the room and vouched for the survivor. "There were indeed demons. Four of them to be exact," he informed the angry man. "They killed my body in a single hit."

"..." The man slowly lowered the axe and looked at the man who just came in. "You serious?"

"My eyes do not deceive me," the man calmly said. Without a doubt, the enemy that they encountered had been demons. "A pair of horns and wings and a tail to match. They're demons alright. I watched them take the dragon when I was lying on the ground."

"Huh..." The man threw the axe onto the ground and kicked the survivor. "Get out!"

"Y-yes sir! Thank you sir!" The survivor scrambled out the room as quickly as his feet could allow him, slipping once and almost falling over, but he caught his balance and got out of there.

"Now then... It looks like we have to recruit the help of slaves," the angry man said. He was not happy with the idea of having to rely on them for help but they have no choice.

"Are we really that short on men?"

"Yes we are! We've been sending people into the slums to die! There's practically none of us left!" the man yelled in fury. They used to be a decently big group of just over a hundred people but now there were less than half of them left. "D*mn it!"

The hooded man looked down at the axe lying on the stone floor. "And you were still thinking of killing him." Despite their lack of personnel, the man had almost killed another one of them which would have further reduced their already dwindled numbers.

"Demons... Do you really expect me to believe bullsh*t like that!? If it weren't coming out of your mouth, I would never have believed it!" The man kicked his table in a fit of rage, breaking one of the legs and causing the entire thing to fall over. The hooded man watched, shaking his head silently.

"What do we do now!? We need that dragon in order to carry out our plan! Tell me, what do we do!? How are we supposed to get the dragon back from the demons!?"

"I could try negotiating with them," the man suggested.

"Are you crazy!? Tell me you're not out of your mind! Negotiating with demons?! They want us dead! Every single last one of us! How are we supposed to negotiate with them?!"

"It's possible."

"..." The angry man walked up to the hooded man until he was just an inch from his face.

"Are you being real with me?" he calmly asked.

"Yes."

"..." The man turned away and walked over to the axe. He picked it up and threw it in the corner so that it wouldn't be in the way of him walking. The man paced around for a moment before stopping and asking the hooded man for confirmation. "You're not joking right?"

"No."

"Then do it. If you can really get the demons to work with us then it would be perfect. That would solve two problems for us. Two birds with one arrow."

"I believe the saying is two birds with one stone."

"Stone, arrow, what does it matter!? Either way we're getting rid of two problems at once. Go do it now."

"I need a body first."

"Just go pick one. There's plenty of those useless idiots still. Actually, why don't you just take that coward's body, the one who just ran out of here?"

"His body won't work. That's the same for everyone else left. That woman was the last one," the hooded man explained. Taking over a body isn't as simple as the man thought. There were requirements that needed to be fulfilled in order for him to be able to control it.

"Then go find someone that you can possess. Go buy a slave or something, we have plenty of money. And while you're at it, get some who look like they could fight."

"Understood." The hooded man started to walk out of the room but stopped and remembered something important.

"What is it?" the man asked, seeing how he had stopped suddenly.

"There's a fifth one."

"Didn't you just tell me that there are only four demons? Now you're saying that there's five!?"

"No, the fifth person didn't look like a demon. He didn't have horns or wings or a tail. He looked human."

"So there's already a human working with them? That's good. That means that we may actually be able to negotiate with them."

"No, he was unconscious. If I have to say, he looked more like a hostage than anything else."

"Okay... And why are you telling me this then?" The man didn't understand how this was important then.

"The fact that the demons are keeping him alive means that he has something they want. If we could get our hands on him or figure out what the demons want, we could negotiate with them."

"I see." That was a reasonable guess as to why the demons would be keeping a human alive. "Go figure out what it is that the demons want from him. If we can get them to work with us then we don't need to worry about getting more people. After all, they're demons. They should be able to wipe out entire units with just the four of them."

"I see what I can do."
