Before anyone had the chance to answer him, a lightning bolt shot out of one of the houses and hit Falte on the arm. "Ah!" He managed to turn to the side last second and it only hit him there and instead of his chest or stomach which would likely have been fatal.
"Enemy!"
Ammine grabbed Jasyeu with her free hand and dragged her behind a broken house for cover while the other two demons scattered in different directions and found a cover of their own. Falte clutched his arm where the lightning struck him and examined it for any wounds. Part of his skin was black from getting scorched but overall, there wasn't much damage.
Ammine peeked out from behind her cover to see who or what the enemy was and saw a group of hooded figures standing in front of them. They belonged to the same group that was trying to assassinate them all this time. "They're after the baby dragon!" She informed the other two demons who had also managed to quickly assess the situation by now and didn't really need her to tell them that.
"Does that mean that they found the dragon already?" Falte asked. If they were here then it meant that they knew that the baby dragon was here as well. But since he couldn't see it anywhere, he wasn't sure if they had caught it yet.
"Probably not. If they did then they would be leaving right now. They don't have a reason to continue staying here if that was their objective," Ammine reasoned. From the looks of things, they knew that the baby dragon was here but are still searching for it. And until they find it, they cannot leave.
Ammine put Kies down behind the cover and looked at Jasyeu. "Stay here and keep an eye on him," she told her in ancient demonic. Jasyeu nodded her head. Ammine looked at the other two demons and signaled for them to charge in on her mark.
She counted down with her fingers. Three, two, one... "Now!"
The three of them all popped out from behind their covers and attacked the enemy. Ammine and Falte charged at them while Messa picked them off one by one from a distance. The enemy did not expect them to all come out at the same time and was caught off guard by it. While they were trying to figure out who to target first, Messa killed three of them and Ammine and Falte both took down one each.
That was five gone. It was a great start to the fight. The demons tried to take down another few before they knew what was going on but couldn't. A bolt of lightning flew towards Ammine who barely dodged it in time. She tried to locate where the attack came from so she could find the mage and take them down to make the fight easier.
"The mage is there!" Ammine spotted someone hiding in the very back behind everyone else. Messa saw the mage as well and tried to snipe them with her magic. A purple flash of magic pierced the mage's skull and took them down instantly.
"Nice job!"
"?" Messa did not expect the mage to go down so easily and thought that it was rather odd. Mages are supposed to pay close attention to their surroundings. That mage should have seen her attack coming and had time to prepare for it. At the very least, they could have stepped to the side in time before the attack reached them. If the mage had tried guarding against the attack and died like that then she wouldn't have any problems with that. But the fact that the mage did nothing as the attack killed them makes her feel somewhat uneasy.
Messa kept an eye on the body of the dead mage while she continued striking down enemies. After each kill, she would glance back at the mage to make sure that they weren't just faking their own death and were going to attack them when they weren't expecting it.
But all her worrying was for naught. They took care of the remaining enemies in just a minute. After their mage was gone, they weren't any more threats for the demons. When it was all over, the first thing that Messa did was head over to the body of the mage and examined it. She cautiously approached it as if it would suddenly jump up and grab her once she got close.
Messa stopped a few feet away from the body and shot it once in the head with her magic just for safety. Blood spattered everywhere and began pouring out of the mage's head. After seeing that, Messa felt a bit secure. She went over and flipped the body over to find the face of a woman. She looked human which confused her since humans aren't able to use lightning magic. Was it someone that was disguised as a human?
"What are you up to?"
Falte appeared behind Messa and looked at her work. "..." He saw a hole on the side of the mage's head even though they already had one in their chest. "Uh... Was she still alive or something?"
"No."
"Huh? Then why did you drill another hole in her?"
"For good measure."
"Umm... You know what? Forget I ever asked." Falte walked away and began searching for the baby dragon which Ammine and Jasyeu are already also doing. "Once you're done doing whatever it is that you're doing, help us look for the dragon."
"Mm." Messa stared at the mage for a few more seconds before she had enough and began searching for the dragon as well. Even though she was the last one to start searching, she was the one who found the dragon hiding under a crate. She informed the others and they quickly came over to where she was.
"Where is it?" Falte asked, still not seeing a dragon anywhere.
Messa pointed at a long red scaly tail coming from behind a crate. It stuck out like a sore thumb, how did Falte not see it immediately?
"Oh. Well then. Ammine?"
"Why me?"
"Who else? Oh, wait..."
"..." Ammine turned to Jasyeu and told her to go pick up the dragon since it liked her the most. She did as she was told and went over to the dragon and happily picked it up. The dragon panicked at first but when it saw who it was, it quickly calmed down and licked the small demon's face.
Jasyeu brought the dragon back to the group and they then went over to pick up Kies where Ammine left him and continued on.
