Unrelenting Vengeance V

"Weapon! Where's my sword!?" Lentis asked aloud as he ran around the armory looking for where he put it. Where the h*ll did it go!? He could've sworn that he left here. 'D*mn it!' He cursed at himself for being an absolute idiot and not keeping the sword on him. He didn't know why but he thought it would be a good idea to just throw it in the knights' armory for the time being since the war was over.

There were still demons out there and his weapon was something that he should have on him at all times in emergencies like this. When the report came, Lentis thought that they had encountered demons in the slums like he had expected but instead of hearing that, he heard something even worse.

There was a dragon wrecking havoc in the city. It took out the majority of the soldiers he sent. What in the world happened in there? First, there was a twister that almost magically appeared from the sky when everything was so clear, and then following the storm, a dragon appeared and set the entire place on fire.

Lentis searched every corner and after not finding his sword, he picked a random one that looked the closest to his and decided that it was good enough. On his way out of the armory, he met Rui and a couple of other knights rushing in to grab their gear as well.

"Do we have a status update?" he asked them.

"Nothing."

"Ugh..."

To make matters worse, he hadn't gotten anything from the church yet and it was said through witnesses that the priests and cardinal who were sent in there were all dead now. A force of a hundred strong who were all able to use magic and they were all dead. It goes without saying that losing so many magic users was anything but good.

"Are we sure it's a dragon?"

"Witnesses say that it is a dragon."

"This is insane."

Lentis didn't believe it. Or rather, it was more like he didn't want to believe it. First, they were attacked by Otane, then by demons, then by a dragon now? It hasn't even been a month since the last attack. What's next? The enslaved races all band together and attack the kingdom?

Actually, yes. That was pretty plausible. Considering how poorly the kingdom treated the slaves, they were bound to form alliances with each other and attack Silverfield eventually. Hopefully, it wouldn't happen right now as well since they did have a dragon to deal with after all. He could only hope that they wouldn't take advantage of the chaos to cause even more damage to the city during the time.

Rui walked over to Lentis and the knight and saw that the two of them both have troubled looks on their faces. She looked around and saw that it was the same for everyone else. She was the only one who was staying calm throughout this entire thing. Even though her face didn't show it, she was secretly just as anxious as them on the inside. But she couldn't show it.

If she started showing signs of worry then the rest of the knights would be very worried as well. She needed to stay composed so that knights wouldn't start panicking. "Pull yourselves together. We can be afraid just by hearing that it's a dragon. Myths and legends tend to be exaggerated. It may not be as powerful as we think it is."

The knight looked at Rui. Even after hearing her words, he was still very worried. "You say that but did you hear what it did to the slums? It got engulfed in flames and wiped out most of the soldiers. The survivors are currently doing their best to stall the monster while the civilians evacuate."

"That just proves that we can't be afraid and that we need to go there right now. The soldiers are fighting that thing. We can't sit around while they risk their lives protecting the kingdom."

"Yes, but going there unprepared is suicide. We have no information on dragons at all. We don't know their weaknesses or anything. All we know is that the dragon is something that even we may not be able to handle."

With every word Rui said to try to encourage the knight, it seemed to only make it worse. The knights were hesitant to go out and face the dragon. They were trained to fight against other soldiers, not a giant fire-breathing monster like that. They didn't know what to do against it.

Lentis drew his sword and stabbed it at the ground. Rui and the knight turned to him. It was times like this that people needed a leader. He's now a king. He couldn't back down before when he was a commander and he couldn't back down now that he was a king. Dragon or no dragon, their kingdom was under attack. It was his job to protect it and the people in it.

"It does not matter if we know nothing about the dragon. It's obvious that some of us will die while fighting that thing but we have to do it anyway. Tell me, what's our oath as knights!?"

"Protect Silverfield even if it means dying! No matter the enemy, no hesitation and no regret! To die defending the kingdom is an honor!" Both Rui and the other knight shouted together in unison.

"And what were you showing me just now."

"Hesitation, sir!"

"Will it happen again?"

"No sir, it will not!" the knight saluted Lentis and stood up straight. He grabbed his weapon with new determination and apologized to Rui as well. "Forgive me for showing such a disappointing sight!"

"No, it's all good. We're going against a dragon, it's normal for you to be nervous."

"Nervous? I'm no longer nervous. I will carry out my duty as a knight."
