Unrelenting Vengeance VI

After gathering most of the knights and informing the ones who were still arriving or preparing to meet them at the slums, Lentis, Rui, and the entire knight corps marched to the slums. Lentis thought about using horses to get there quicker but after seeing how scared all of them were from hearing all the roars and shaking, it was decided that it was better to move on foot. There was no point in forcing the terrified creatures to run to their doom. Not only was it wrong, they probably wouldn't even be able to get them to move.

"Run away!"

"I can see it! It's over there!"

"Ahhh! My house!"

All around the knights, they can hear the sound of people panicking and running for their lives. Ahead of them, they can see that there was a wall of fire blocking their line of sight. It stretched across the city and blocked off an entire section of it. Lentis looked back at the knights and he saw that they were all thinking the same thing as him.

The dragon was on the other side of the fire. The moment they went through, they would come face to face with it. And once that happened, there was no going back.

"Are we all ready?" Lentis asked everyone. Little by little, people said yes one after another and after the last person confirmed that they were ready, Lentis turned and looked back at the wall of fire in front of them.

"On the count of three." Lentis got ready to split the earth under them to stop the fire so that they could go through. "One! Two! Three!" Lentis raised his hand and opened a section of the earth and threw it over the fire to create a gap for them to go through. The moment the hole in between the fire was created, Lentis charged through the fire first followed by Rui and then the rest of the knights.

"There it is!" The dragon was right in front of them towering above a row of houses. It spotted them the moment they entered and opened its mouth towards them. A huge wave of fire shot out of its mouth and almost hit the knights. It landed a few feet away from them.

Lentis felt a wave of hot air slam into him and he quickly summoned a stone wall from the ground to block the attack before it could reach them. The dragon tilted its head upwards and the fire collided with his wall. He watched as the stone wall he created turned molten red and began to melt.

"Everyone, scatter!" he yelled at the knights. They couldn't stay clumped up like this. It was too dangerous.

The knights all ran in different directions and created a semi-circle around the dragon. They then started to pelt the dragon continuously with magic. But as expected of a mythical beast, the attacks had little to no effect. It only seemed to anger the dragon more.

The dragon turned its head to the right and breathed fire onto a group of knights. They tried to move away but weren't able to get out in time and got hit by the attack.

"AHHHH!" The knights ran out of the fire screaming at the top of their lungs. They tore at their armor and tried to take it off but couldn't. After running aimlessly for a few seconds, they dropped onto the floor dead.

"Everyone, take off your armor now!" Lentis quickly ordered after seeing what happened to the three knights. Had the three knights ran with no armor, they would have made it out of the blast in time. Their armor wasn't going to be useful here. It was only slowing them down.

Lentis threw his sword onto the ground and took off his armor and then grabbed his sword again. All around him, he heard the sound of clanking as armor fell to the ground. Lentis looked back at the dragon and saw that it was targeting another group of knights who were still in the middle of taking off their armor.

"How devious..." The dragon knew that they were sitting ducks and was planning to take them out before they had the chance to run, but Lentis wasn't going to allow the dragon to do that. Lentis raised his hand and conjured a massive boulder in a split second and threw it at the dragon. The boulder collided with its scaly body and shattered. The dragon on the other hand didn't even look like it was hurt.

But luckily, Lentis did get the dragon's attention with that attack. The dragon slowly turned its head to where the boulder came from and spotted him. A chill went down his spine as he met with its slitted eyes.

The dragon opened its mouth and shot a breath of fire at him. Lentis raised his arm up and summoned another wall of earth to block the flames. The wall gave him just enough time to get out of the way before it was melted by the flames, and the tidal wave of fire collapsed on the spot where he was. The dragon saw that he had escaped and turned its head while continuing to spew fire.

"Go go go!" Lentis yelled at the knights as he ran past them. They all joined him one by one as the fire chased after them. Soon enough, after a bit of running, the knights had banded back together into a small group. After the fire stopped, Lentis called for everyone to scatter again.

Lentis ran a bit further away from the dragon and stopped just before the wall of fire and turned to face the dragon again. It had lost interest in him and was targeting another knight now. That or the knight had provoked it somehow, drawing the dragon's attention away from Lentis and to the knight.

This was perfect. Since the dragon was distracted and had its attention fixated on elsewhere, Lentis could use this opportunity to launch a big attack. If the previous ones he and the knights launched did nothing, this one was bound to do some damage to it at the very least.
