A Wedge In The Plan

They needed to be quick about this. Three people weren't going to cut it though. A single one of Otane's siege weapons needed at least ten people or so to move it. But it wasn't like they had the personnel for this either. Most of the knights were protecting Lentis so she couldn't just grab a couple of them for it. The rest of the knights didn't look like they had the energy to help move the weapon but she didn't have a choice.

"All of you over there, come with me too!" she told a group of knights who were trying to catch their breaths.

"Yes, commander!" The knights all ran to Rui and the group set off to locate a siege weapon to bring back.

"Does anyone know where the closest one is?" Rui asked before they headed off.

"Aren't they all outside though?"

"Yes, they are." All of them were outside the walls but they could probably get one of them inside through the hole they made. If not, worst-case scenario, they could just use one to make a hole or widen an already existing hole in the wall to get it in.

"I think there's actually one inside Silverfield," a knight said.

"Wait, really?" If that was true then they didn't need to go outside to fetch one. It would save them a lot of time and trouble. Unless of course, it was going to take longer to reach it than to go get one from outside the walls. "Where is it?"

"Last I remember, I saw it leaning against a house. It might have been broken but I am not sure."

"Then it is risky for us to go and take it," another soldier added. If there was a chance that the siege weapon was broken, then it was probably safer to go with one that was outside the walls.

But Rui disagreed with this. "No, we don't have enough time. We have to take the chance." The longer it took them to bring back a siege weapon, the more likely the dragon would break free and wipe Lentis and the other knights out.

The knights were unsure of Rui's decision but since she was their commander, they could follow what she thought would be best. "Lead us to it," she told the knight who knew where the siege weapon was.

"It's this way." Everyone followed the knight as he took to the front and showed them the way to it. After a bit of running, the knights saw the siege weapon leaning against the wall like the knight had said it was.

"I'm not sure how we will move this..." one of the knights said while looking at the slanted machine.

"At least it doesn't look broken. We didn't waste our time," another knight chimed in, pointing out something positive about the situation.

Rui examined the siege weapon. Could they even move that if all of them tried? The weapon was huge and looked like it weighed a ton too. Well, there was only one way to find out...

"Anyone here use earth magic?" The knights looked at each other and shook their heads one by one. "What about wind?" Maybe wind magic can push the machine off the wall so that they can move it. "No one either?" Everyone shook their heads as well. There were ten people here who all could use magic and none of them used earth or wind? What were the odds?

Then what magic do you all use then? "Immediately upon asking that question, the entire group blurted out one after another, "Fire," or "light." Everyone here used fire or light magic. "Are you all serious!?"

"Yeah?"

This was unbelievable. How were there only fire and light users in the group?

"What about you, commander?" one of the knights asked her.

"Shhh!"

"Don't ask that!"

The other knights quickly slushed the knight. Everyone here knew that Rui hated using her magic and only relied on their sword skills. But apparently, it wasn't everyone if there was still a knight asking about it.

"Um..." the knight was unsure why he was being told not to ask that question but didn't say anything more about it.

"No, it's fine," Rui told everyone. She might not like using her magic, but she didn't really care that much about telling other people about it. "It's ice magic," she told the curious knight.

"Ice!? Do you mean water?" he corrected her.

"No, it's ice. It's a variant of water magic I guess." But unlike water magic which was used primarily only for healing, ice magic was an offensive type of magic and was pretty lethal. All she knew was that her father said it was on the same level as fire magic. But since she rarely used it before, she wasn't sure how true that was.

"By any chance, can you create a block of ice to push the machine upright?" A knight asked her. In other words, is it possible for her to use her magic like earth magic by creating a wall?

"I can freeze things. That's about all I can do," Rui told the knight. She lacked experience with her magic and didn't know how to do anything other than freezing stuff. "But in order to do so, they needed to be wet," she also added. She has seen her father create ice out of thin air before but she isn't able to do that for obvious reasons.

"Can you create water?"

"No." She couldn't do that either.

"Well, this is a problem then."

None of their magic was useful for moving the siege weapon. They will need to think of something else.

"Ugh, screw this." One of the knights dropped his sword and walked over to the siege weapon.

"What are you doing?"

"We don't know until we try right?"

"You're not saying that we try to move that thing physically are you?"

"I am."
