"It is me, but I don't really have control over it," Rui told the knights, going with what the voice told her.
"What?"
"Ah never mind it, we need to focus on the dragon first," Rui pointed out. It was right in front of them now just a couple of meters away and they needed to take care of it before anything else. This wasn't the time to be asking questions.
The knights all turned their attention back to the dragon instead of Rui and got ready to fight it. "Spread out!" Rui ordered.
'Don't do that! I can't protect them all like that!'
"Wait! Come back!" The knights stopped in their tracks and looked back at their commander with confused expressions. They didn't question her sudden change in their orders and ran back to her side. All the while this was happening, the dragon was staring down at them amusingly, unsure of what to make of what the knights were doing.
"Attack it from here!" The knights all began to use their magic to attack the dragon even though they knew that it would have no effect on it. "Stall it!"
Rui looked over to the siege weapon and suddenly remembered something very important. "Is someone still in there?"
"No, we left it because we thought it was useless now," the knight who had been operating it answered her.
"We need someone to get back in it!" The dragon was now back on the ground and it was possible for them to hit it with the siege weapon again.
"But don't we need to restrain the dragon first?"
"I can do that," Rui said confidently. But it wasn't her who said it, but the voice inside her head instead, telling her to say that. 'I can stop that thing from moving for about twenty seconds. But I can only do it once. You have to tell me when to do it.'
In short, they needed to move the siege weapon as close to the dragon as possible without it noticing. This wasn't going to be an easy task. The siege weapon was huge and the dragon could easily spot it. Right now, from the angle the dragon was standing at, the siege weapon was conveniently hiding behind a couple of destroyed houses. They needed to get the dragon to face the other way so that someone could run to it and move the siege weapon close without the dragon spotting it.
"We need to get around the dragon," Rui told everyone. "But move as a group." This way, not only would they draw the dragon's attention away from the siege weapon, but she could also keep them all safe.
"Understood!" The knights all followed Rui as she ran to the right of the dragon. The dragon patiently watched them to see what they were up to. When they made just about out of its line of light, the dragon turned its body to follow the knights. It opened its mouth and breathed another wave of fire in a cone at the knights. "One of you, go to the siege weapon now!" While the dragon had its mouth open, it shouldn't be able to see if one of them left the group.
"On it!" The knight furthest in the back turned around and ran for the siege weapon while the rest continued forward.
'Continue running, I got it.' Rui and the knights didn't stop and continued to circle around the dragon. Everyone remained calm as the fire drew close. When the fire was just about to hit them, a wall of ice formed instantly to their left and blocked the flames.
"Go go go!" The knights didn't slow down and ran until they were on the opposite side of where they started. "Fourth formation, but don't spread out too much!" The knights followed Rui's order and moved around until they were all in formation.
"Vanguard, forward!" The knights in the front all raised their swords and charged at the dragon. "Rearguard, follow behind!" The backline began to move in seconds after the frontline. Rui moved in with the knights in the front.
Under normal circumstances, they would never have used this formation against something like a dragon when it could just tear apart all of them in a matter of seconds but the voice in her head told her to do so since it said it could protect them all.
Rui drew her sword when they got close to the dragon and all of them ran in at the same time. She was afraid that the dragon would fly away when they got close, but luckily, the dragon decided to stay on the ground and take the fight with them there.
The dragon raised one of its feet and stomped down with it on a group of knights when they got close enough. Everyone moved back when that happened to dodge the attack. *Crash!* Dirt was flung into the air by the impact and rained down on the heads of the knights.
"Now!" The knights ran in after the foot went down and started attacking its front legs. But as expected, their swords couldn't get through its armor. Rui looked around for any weak points in the armor just like the one she found before. Where was it again? It was on one of the legs and was pretty close to the ground. That was all she remembered. If she could find the exposed spot again then they might be able to deal some damage to it.
"Everyone, there's an exposed area on one of its legs! Find it!" she told the knights. While the knights in the front continued the attack, the second group of knights in the back looked for the weak spot on the dragon that Rui had been talking about.
"I see it! It's over there!" a knight shouted out. He pointed at a spot on the dragon's leg where there were scales missing. It was small and hard to see but somehow he had spotted it.
"Focus there!" The knights in the rearguard all chanted their magic spells and fired them at the dragon's leg. Most of the magic hit the side of its leg but one did hit the exposed area and caused the dragon to flinch a little from the pain.
"Great job!"
The massive beast didn't look so tough now that its weak point was exposed. All they needed to do was continue to pressure it by attacking that spot. This battle was winnable.
