Unyielding Beast

Rui really hoped that she didn't jinx it by thinking that. "Commander, we have a problem!" Sh*t, so she really did jinx it.

Rui watched as the dragon spread open its wings and flew up into the sky. It saw that fighting against them on foot was disadvantageous for it and decided to fly back up into the air where the knights' attacks wouldn't be able to reach.

'I'll bring it back down,' the voice in Rui's head said.

"You will?"

"Who will?" The knights looked at Rui with confused looks as to what she said. She had accidentally said it out loud when she should have not said anything at all.

"Sorry, I thought I heard someone say something," she lied embarrassingly.

"Oh, uh... I don't think any of us here said anything."

D*mn that voice in her head. It was so hard not to speak out loud whenever she heard it.

'You will get used to it eventually.'

'Who or what are you in the first place anyway?'

'Save your questions for later. Remember, we first have to deal with the dragon.'

'Then bring it down already like you said you will!' Rui told the voice in her head.

'Done.'

The dragon's wing beats began to slow down as the air around it began to grow cold very quickly, freezing the blood in its wings and causing it to flap slower and slower until it had no choice but to descend back down.

Even though Rui made no apparent gesture or motion that would tell the dragon that she was the one responsible for doing that, the dragon knew that the cause of the temperature dropping was because of her. It glared at her with its reptilian-like eyes, making her entire body shiver as if she also got caught up in the cold air up there.

"Ugh..." She did not like the dragon's eyes. It was way too scary for her. Whenever it looked at her, she couldn't help but feel fear like it was going to rip her to pieces. And yes, it was definitely fully capable of doing that to her if it wanted. It was a good thing that there was some weird thing protecting her and the knights.

'I would prefer it if you didn't refer to me as some "weird thing" when I am the reason why you are all still alive right now,' the voice grumpily told her.

'Then what do you want me to refer to you as? It's not like you told me what you are or what your name is,' Rui pointed out. She didn't know anything about the voice and therefore had no idea what she should call the thing that was speaking to her through her head.

'Forget it. I'll tell you once this mess is all over,' the voice said again. It really didn't seem like it wanted to tell Rui what it was. But she agreed with the voice. It didn't matter what its identity was right now. As long as it was on their side, she couldn't care any less what it was.

"Watch out!"

The dragon turned around and sent half the knights in the front flying back through the air with its tail.

"It's coming again!"

The dragon swept its tail again and this time it targeted Rui and the other remaining knights. None of them had the time to react and were all knocked away by the tail too. The dragon itself might be slow but its tail was a lot faster when compared to the rest of its body.

The knights all got back up from the ground after getting knocked down by the tail only to be met by a big open-jaw ready to blast them with flames. 'Hey, do something!' Rui shouted at the voice in her head.

The fire shot out of its mouth like a flamethrower and hit a couple of the knights. They all screamed in agony as the fire burned apart their clothes and then their flesh.

"Commander!" The dragon was turning its head slowly and was killing the knights one by one with its fire breath. If this kept up, it would only be a matter of seconds before they all died. Where was the ice that was supposed to protect them!?

'What are you doing!?'

'You think I'm not trying to do anything? Something is interfering with my magic, I can't seem to get it to work.'

"Weren't you using it just fine before!?" Rui shouted out loud in frustration.

"Commander, we need to move!" The remaining knights were running towards her with the fire closing in right behind them as they were moving. Rui turned and started running in the same direction as the knights, which was away from the flames. "Commander, what happened!? Why aren't you using your magic!?" one of the knights asked when he got close enough to her.

"Something is stopping me from using it!"

"What!?"

"I think I might know what it is! The-" Before the knight had a chance to tell Rui about what it was, something slammed down onto him. The shockwave pushed the rest of the knights rolling back.

"What-" The thing had come down so fast that they weren't even able to tell what hit the knight. When Rui looked back at where the knight was, she saw that he had been flattened by the dragon's tail.

The dragon lifted its tail up to reveal the corpse of the unfortunate knight who had been caught by it. His body had been split in half by the impact and his insides were exposed. Rui quickly looked away from the sight and turned back at the dragon who looked like it was smirking from having killed someone in such a brutal way.

*Rumble* The sound of wood clattering filled the air and everyone turned to look at the siege weapon which was making its way to the dragon.

"No!" Rui cried out in dismay. Too late. The dragon spotted the siege weapon as well with all the noise it was making and slowly turned its body to face it.

"Stop the dragon now! It doesn't matter how long, just stop it!" she yelled at the voice to do something, or else the siege weapon was going to get destroyed.

'My magic isn't working anymore.' To prove its point, the tattoo on Rui's hand began glowing brightly but nothing happened. Rui watched in horror as the dragon opened its mouth and unleashed a torrent of fire onto the siege machine, disintegrating the entire thing into nothing more than ashes in just seconds. Inside the fire, she could see the silhouette of a person throwing their arms up in the air and flailing around as they were cooked alive by it.

After destroying the siege weapon, the dragon slowly turned back around and looked at the remaining knights who were now looking at their commander, awaiting her orders.

"Commander, what do we do!?"
