The four demons and Kies, who was still unconscious, found a safe place to hide beneath the city's walls between a bunch of rubble and abandoned houses. Ammine put Kies down against the wall and went over to the other three demons who were looking up at the sky.
"Oh boy, that dragon sure is going ham on the city," Falte commented. The entire sky was riddled with black smoke rising from the city's burning houses and buildings. "Good thing we made it out in time or otherwise we'd be in trouble." The dragon was basically going around destroying everything in its sights.
"Is that the dragon we met before, or is it another one?" Ammine asked out of curiosity. She wasn't sure if the one attacking the kingdom right now was the one they fought with back down in the sewers or if it was a different one.
"I'm pretty sure that is the one we fought with," Falte said. He wasn't a hundred percent certain that it was him, but he was fairly confident about it. If it was a different dragon then there should be two dragons running amok in the city right now since he doubted that one of them would sit back while the other one was on a rampage. And as for the reason why he was on a rampage...
Falte looked down at the baby dragon in Jasyeu's arms. It was almost as big as her and it looked ridiculous for a little girl like her to be carrying something the same size as her. "Do you have any clue why he might be wreaking havoc on the city?" he asked the beast.
The dragon looked up at him, clearly not understanding a single word he just said. But Falte didn't need an answer to that question. He was more than sure that the cause behind that grown dragon going around and destroying everything was the baby dragon.
"Do you think that thing can sense where we are?" Falte knew that other than demons, there were other races who were able to sense their own kind from a distance and were able to pinpoint the location from that. He wasn't sure if dragons could do the same thing, but from the looks of it, the answer was probably no.
"I don't think so," Ammine also thought. "If it could sense its own kind then the dragon wouldn't be all the way across the city where it was around a kilometer away from them.
"Hmm... It looks like those guys get their wish now." The organization that kidnapped the baby dragon and brought it here was probably dancing in joy right now seeing what was going on in the city. Or maybe they were unlucky and were getting caught up in the crossfire as well. Either way, their wish came through and they didn't really have anything to complain about, even if they died because of it.
"Speaking of which... There's one eavesdropping on us right now."
"There is?"
"Yes, I hear them." Falte's sense of hearing was very keen and he already knew that they were being followed the entire time but kept quiet about it since there was only one of them and he felt no hostile intentions from them.
"Come out, I know you're behind the house." After Falte said that, there was some rustling as someone appeared from around the corner in front of them.
"So you found me out."
"Wasn't that hard."
The demons stared at the man dressed in all black with a staff in his hands.
"I don't think you're stupid enough to follow a bunch of demons for now reason. What do you want?" Falte asked the man about his purpose for following them for this long. "Surely it's not because you want to try to make a deal with us right?"
"It looks like I was found out again," the man laughed.
"You're not serious, are you?" Falte said that as a joke and didn't intend for that to be the real reason why he had followed them.
"Oh, I'm very serious about this," the man said.
"We killed a bunch of your people, and you are still willing to work together with us?"
"We share the same goals, no?"
Both of them wanted to destroy Silverfield, and since they shared that in common with each other, it was logical for them to work together because of that. Even if teaming with each other is impossible, at the very least they can agree to not interfere with each other's things.
"Not exactly."
"What do you mean?"
"Our goal isn't to destroy Silverfield, it is to kill every single last one of you humans," Falte told him. Did he really expect that they could work together if their goal was actually that? Falte pulled out his dagger and moved in front of the man in the blink of an eye. He stabbed the man before he had the chance to even take a step back in surprise.
"Urk!" Falte pushed the dagger into his stomach and then kicked the man away.
"Y-you-" *Cough* "W-why?"
"You should know better than to bargain with demons."
"I do. What I want to k-know is why you don't want to accept t-the offer."
"Do I need to repeat myself? It's because we want to kill ALL humans. No exceptions."
"I-I see... That's a shame then. I guess you will have to die here."
"What are you talking about?"
He was on his last breath and was going to die any second now and he still has the audacity to make threats? He wasn't going to say something like my organization will avenge me, right? After all, they literally wiped out a great number of their members already. It didn't matter who or how many they sent against them, they would all end up dying. Even if it was his last words, something like that was just not it.
The dying man saw the looks on the demons' faces and knew exactly what they were thinking. He smiled and said, "I don't make empty threats." Magic began to surge into the man's body. Electricity sparked around his body and zapped everything nearby.
"Wait, you're really planning on doing that!?"
"This isn't my real body you know," the man coughed.
"Run!" Falte shouted at everyone.
"Why?"
"Because he's going to self-"
But it was too late. By the time the other three demons realized what the man was doing, they didn't have the time to get away anymore.
A bright light blinded everyone, indicating that he was about to explode. "F*ck!" Ammine threw herself in front of Messa and Jasyeu to protect them from the explosion.
