Shoot The Messenger

The explosion blew up the entire house and damaged the next couple of ones over as well. When Ammine opened her eyes again, she saw that she was perfectly fine even though she took a direct hit from the explosion. Well, she should've taken a direct hit from the explosion but Messa managed to create a barrier at the last second to protect them from the blast. If not for that, the three of them and the baby dragon would've been seriously injured from it.

"Good job Messa."

Messa nodded her head as if to say, "Of course," and then went over to the body to check what remained of it. The body was charred black and smelled like burning flesh. It would have been impossible to distinguish who the corpse belonged to if they didn't already know beforehand.

"Ugh, that looks... horrid." Falte came up behind them and looked at the aftermath of the explosion. "Guess he really wasn't kidding when he said that it's just a disposable body. Poor rat lost its face."

"You say that, but do you actually feel sympathy for him?"

"Hm? Of course... not! Why the hell would I feel bad for a d*mn rat. In fact, I find it rather funny how he was sent here to die."

"..."

Anyhow, they needed to move again. Ammine turned away from the body and went over to Kies and picked him up. She slung him over her shoulder and looked at the rest of the group. "We need to move again."

"Yeah we do," Falte agreed.

The explosion was loud as heck and it most definitely was heard by people. The army may be busy dealing with the dragon right now, but they still needed to move again in case someone came here to investigate.

"A shame, this is a rather decent spot if I have to say so myself," Falte added. The place was a lot cleaner than the slums and the house was a lot bigger too. The only real issue was the giant hole in the house but it only applied to the first floor and they had the entire second floor to work with.

Falte quickly picked up everything he dropped and got ready to move again. "Alright, let's go."

"Before we do, should we do something about this," Ammine pointed at the body.

"What do you want to do about it?"

"We could bury it so people don't know what happened here."

"I don't really see a point in doing that but it's to you I guess."

"In that case..." Ammine told Jasyeu to bury the body. She took the dragon off for a short moment while she did that and then handed it back to her. "Now that that is done, let's go."

Meanwhile, while the dragon was burning down the city, two men in a dark room are talking to one another.

"I take it that it didn't go well?"

"They didn't want to work together."

"And the reason?"

"They want to exterminate every last human," the man repeated the demons' words.

"Hmph, at the very least, you would think that they would agree for us to not fight each other. I guess demons really are just barbaric animals. We should've completely wiped them all out before fighting among ourselves."

"It's a little late for that now. If we wanted to do that then we should have done it long ago when they were on the verge of extinction. If only, if only Silverfield didn't decide to backstab us before we got rid of them all. Now they have both us and them trying to destroy this place. Oh, the irony," the man laughed to himself for a moment before abruptly stopping and looking back at the other man. "Why aren't you laughing with me?"

"Am I supposed to?"

"Yes. I mean didn't Silverfield kill your entire tribe or something? Shouldn't you be laughing with joy at their downfall right now?"

"They get what they deserve. Believe me, I am more than happy to see that dragon burning down the kingdom but I don't see a reason to laugh about something as small as that. I will laugh when the entire place is drowned in fire and there is not a single Silvian left alive."

"Oh, you're even more twisted than I am."

"Do you really think that? You skin people alive for fun while I kill with efficiency, I think it is pretty clear who is more twisted here."

"Is torture really that despicable? I find it fun and it's a great way to kill time. You should try it sometime."

"I don't think I will..."

"Hmph, it's your loss."

The man went over to a chair and sat down on it. He then spun the chair around forcefully, almost breaking one of its legs as he did so. "So,..." he continued with their conversation before they got sidetracked. "How do our forces look like right now? I expect a good answer."

"I got just over a hundred slaves before everything went to h*ll. That reminds me, how did you manage to piss off that dragon;? When I went to deliver my message to the demons, I saw that it was still in their hands."

The man started laughing hysterically at the question asked to him.

"Is it that funny?"

"You won't believe what happened. It's almost like God also wants this place to be destroyed as well!"

"Please enlighten me."

"It turns out that the baby dragon we kidnapped had a sibling. It looked exactly identical to the one we had and if I were to tell you, I'd say that they were twins."

"So you captured the sibling and slaughtered it? I don't see how it's that funny," the hooded man said.

"Let me finish. So what happened was that the sibling waltzed right into our territory, searching for its sibling. In other words, it quite literally delivered itself to us on a golden platter."

"So that's what happened."

"Yeah. Anyway, we didn't actually kill it and threw it onto the streets. We happened upon the adult dragon that was searching for the two siblings and made a deal with him."

"More like threatened," the hooded man said.

"Hmm... You could say that too. I told him that if he wanted the two siblings back safe and sound then he needed to destroy Silverfield for us."

"Did you tell him to swear on it?"

"Of course. I'm not stupid you know."

"I see. But we don't have both dragons, so how do we give both of them back?" They could expect the dragon to uphold his side of the deal but they still needed to uphold theirs or else they would perish alongside Silverfield.

"That's simple. We don't. We just need to flee when this is all over."
