Fire And Ice I

Lentis peeked out from underneath his earthen shelter at the fight that was happening. This was bad. Did the knight he sent not deliver the message or something? Why were they all still fighting even though they couldn't win? To make matters worse, he had no strength left to help them so he could only watch as things played out.

"D*mn it. Move!" Lentis hit his foot against the ground to get the blood running through it. This was no time for it to be numb or asleep. He needed to move. Lentis punched both his arms a few times as well since he wasn't feeling anything in either of them. When he felt the blood rush back to all his limbs, Lentis walked out of the dome and stumbled towards the knights. His head was ringing and he couldn't see straight.

He lost too much blood and had trouble moving his body. It was slow to respond and also hard to move. Each step felt it took all his energy to make. At the rate he was going, the fight was going to be over by the time he made it to them.

Lentis' legs gave in after a couple of steps and he fell to the ground after barely walking even a few steps. *Huff* *Huff* He was already this out of breath after walking that short of a distance? He was really not in the condition to be fighting and he knew this, but this wasn't something he could sit by and watch as it happened.

Lentis forced himself to get back up from the ground and took another few steps towards the dragon before collapsing again. And this time, his legs were done. He couldn't move them anymore no matter how hard he tried. They wouldn't respond to him. Lentis let out a curse and looked at the fight in the distance.

It was difficult to see exactly what was going on since the dragon's body was too big and was blocking his sight. He couldn't see the knights, but he did hear their screams and shouts which led him to believe that the fight was not going well for them. "They should've ran..." If only they followed his orders and not fought the dragon.

Lentis watched as the dragon tilted its head up and then blew fire in front of it. Screams could be heard from the direction where the dragon's flames hit. Lentis felt his heart drop hearing his fellow knights get slaughtered by the dragon. "Arghh!" Lentis grabbed his sword and pushed himself up onto his feet again. If his legs wouldn't work, then he will just have to use his arms. And if that doesn't work then he will drag his body there some other way.

All around him, he saw the corpses of all soldiers and knights who died fighting the dragon. There was one every couple of meters and he could be sure that he will be joining them soon.

*Roar!* The dragon staggered backward after getting hit in the face by something. Lentis didn't get a good look at what it was that hit it but it looked like it might have been a giant chunk of ice. There was white and blue powder in the air which led him to think that it really had been ice. Was that Rui's doing?

No, it couldn't be. Rui scorned her magic and made a promise to herself to never use it. He remembered her telling him that she would rather die than use her magic. Even in a situation like this where everyone's lives were in danger, he was sure that she still wouldn't use her magic. What made her change her mind?

In the first place, was her magic even that powerful? He has never seen her use it before so he didn't know. If she could do something like that then she didn't even need to learn how to use the sword.

Who even needed to learn how to wield a sword if they knew how to hurl giant chunks of ice. Lentis took a couple of more steps towards the dragon before stopping again to rest. He leaned against his sword and looked at the fight. He still wasn't any closer to it and couldn't see much of it but he did see the small silhouette of a person standing in front of the dragon.

The person wore a commander knight's uniform which meant... "It is Rui." There was no mistaking it. The magic that he saw was indeed Rui's. He looked around the battlefield to see where the other knights were and saw them all gathered behind Rui. He also spotted the burned-down wreckage of the siege weapon not too far away from the dragon as well.

Could they really do this without it? The entire plan had been to use the siege weapon to break through the dragon's defenses. But seeing how powerful Rui's ice magic is, it might just be possible. "I need to help." Lentis forced himself to move forward again despite not having stopped for long. His body cried out in pain as he took another few steps.

After making it close enough to the battle, Lentis stopped and observed the two sides go at each other. Depending on how the fight goes, he was willing to sacrifice his life to cast one more spell if needed. It didn't matter to him if he died now or not. They needed to take down the dragon or else Silverfield was done for.

Rui spotted Lentis and the two of them locked eyes for a moment. He saw her worried expression when she saw that his shirt was covered in blood and needed to use his sword to support himself. She mouthed something that he could only imagine sounded something along the lines of, "Get away from here!"

Lentis shook his head and pointed at the dragon and then back at himself. He wasn't going to leave until the dragon was gone. Rui made another expression back but couldn't say anything else to him because of the dragon attacking her. It turned its massive body and swiped its tail at Rui and the knights, using it like a whip.

Rui stopped the attack by creating a wall of ice to block the tail. There was a loud crack as the dragon's tail slammed into the ice and Lentis couldn't tell if that was the sound of the ice breaking or if that was the sound of its scale cracking. But from the looks of it, it was the ice. The dragon didn't look hurt and there were also a lot of cracks on the icy wall. That thing was as tough as the things he can create with his earth magic.

The dragon slammed its tail repeatedly into the wall until it shattered before hitting her with a breath of fire. Rui waved her hand and this caused the attack to be returned back at the dragon, blasting its face with its own fire.

The dragon's attack had no effect on itself and it brushed it off. It then opened its wings and flew up into the air. It glared down at Rui and for a moment, Lentis was afraid that it might try ramming its body into her and the knights but that wasn't the case. For some strange reason that was unexplainable to them, the dragon looked around like it was searching for something before flying away.
