Fire And Ice II

Rui didn't understand what just happened. The dragon had just been glaring at her murderously a second ago, and now it was flying away for some reason. Did it deem that she was too much effort to fight and wanted to find somewhere else where there was less resistance?

Rui created another chunk of ice and shot it at the dragon but it was too high up in the air and the ice didn't reach.

'Is there any way for us to chase after it?' Rui asked the voice in her head. The dragon was escaping and she had a bad feeling about this. Whatever they do, they couldn't let the dragon leave and cause havoc to another area in the city.

'No, but you can bring it back down to the ground again.'

'How! Tell me, quick!' Rui urged the voice. They didn't have much time. The dragon was a rather slow flyer but it was getting pretty far from them.

'Shoot an ice comet at it.'

'How do I do that?'

'Hold your hand out and just say comet.'

Was it really that easy? Rui held her hand out and yelled, "Comet!" The knights all turned to her and then looked up at the sky. Nothing happened.

'It's not working!'

'No, it's coming. I feel it.'

Rui waited a couple of seconds and saw something shoot through the clouds and collide with the dragon at lightning speed. The dragon didn't have the time to react to the attack and plummeted back down to the ground.

The dragon's body hit the ground with a loud crash, almost like a meteorite. Where the dragon landed, the knights could now see a giant crater. "Surround it!" Rui ordered the knights. They needed to keep the dragon from getting back up. This was their chance to take it down once and for all.

It took the knights a moment to take in the fact that Rui just shot a comet into the dragon, but after breaking out of their daze, they all rushed to the crater where the dragon was growling in agony inside. From the looks of it, it seemed that Rui had broken one of its wings with the attack and it can no longer fly.

D*mn it. If only the siege weapon was still intact then they can maybe take the dragon right now without any issues. If they had been just a bit more patient with their attack then the fight could have ended right now.

"You three over there, locate another siege weapon and bring it back here!" she told the three most injured knights. They were no use in battle anymore and it was better if she sent them off to bring back another siege weapon.

"But what about you commander?" They were hesitant to leave because there were barely any knights left and they needed all the firepower they could get against the dragon. Losing three knights was almost twenty percent of their total fighting force now. The rest were either dead or incapacitated.

"I'll be fine," she told the knights not to worry about her. She gave the knights a fierce cold look to show them that she wasn't going to go down easily. The knights saw this and knew that there was no need for them to be so concerned and saluted her.

"Yes, ma'am.." The knights wasted no more time and immediately set off to find another siege weapon.

"Phew..." Rui placed her hand on her chest which was hurting beyond what was tolerable but she still managed to keep a straight face nevertheless. She was using magic that was out of her capabilities and her body was suffering a great toll because of it. Right now, she could feel her blood growing colder and her insides freezing. She couldn't keep using the magic forever. It was only a matter of time before her body succumbed to the cold.

At most, she had five minutes before she had to stop or she would die. That wasn't enough time for the knights to bring back a siege machine but she had to hope that they would make it back in time before her magic ran out.

'Your body can't handle the magic. You need to stop soon,' the voice warned her. But it was an unnecessary warning since she already knew about it.

It took the dragon some time to recover, but it slowly got up on its feet and crawled out of the dragon. The moment it did, it let out a gush of fire at the knights. Rui waved her hand and created a wall of ice between the fire and the knights to save them from the attack.

The fire tore through the wall almost instantly, but it gave the knights enough time to move out of the way so they didn't get hit. The temperature rose to a sweltering degree and Rui could feel her body start to slow down. Her insides were freezing and her outsides were burning. Because of this, her body began to feel sluggish and she also started feeling dizzy as well.

She looked around and saw the other knights were also starting to suffer heat strokes from fighting the dragon for too long. She needed to do something about this before the heat started to do too much damage to everyone.

Rui stomped on the ground, causing ice to form under her foot and spread out in all directions. The ice continued to spread until it surrounded the entire crater. "There." The frozen ground should hopefully be enough to counteract the heat. She didn't need it to stay around forever either. Just long enough to take down the dragon was fine.

The knights all fired magic into the pit to bring the dragon back down into the hole. But no matter how many hits it took, the magic did nothing to it. Only Rui's magic was powerful enough to get through the dragon's defenses and actually do some harm to it.

The dragon knew this and chose to only focus on Rui as she is the only one who can do harm to it. It can ignore everyone else since they lack the firepower to do anything to it. The dragon turned its head Rui's way and opened its mouth. Rui expected the dragon to breathe more fire at her and created a wall in front of her, but that wasn't the case this time.

The dragon shot a fireball out of its mouth that exploded the wall and destroyed it in one hit. Behind that fireball were several more following right through to its target. Luckily Rui spotted them in time and put up several more ice walls to block all of them. But it wasn't enough. There were too many fireballs and Rui didn't have the time to block them all. The last two fireballs made it through to her.

"Commander!"
