Rui ducked just in time as the tail flew by over her head. If she reacted even a second later, her head would have gotten separated from her body. The dragon was now thrashing around wildly and almost looked like it was throwing a tantrum, a deadly tantrum at that.
"Commander!"
"No, don't come here!" Rui stopped the knights that were advancing towards her before they could get too close. Right now, she was caught in the center of the dragon's tantrum attack and she needed to move away before she was crushed by its body.
The knights watched nervously as their commander dodged attack after attack from the dragon all while badly injured. It took some time but Rui was eventually able to back away from the dragon enough where she could dodge the next attack and make a break for it. And that was exactly what happened.
After the dragon swiped its tail across the ground and missed Rui, she turned and ran as fast as her injuries could allow her to and stopped in front of the knights.
"Commander, let me heal you." A couple of the knights who used light magic offered to heal Rui's broken ribs but she declined them.
"There's no time for that," she told the worried knights. Healing her ribs would take too long and they didn't have the luxury of time. The dragon saw that Rui had escaped its range of where its attacks could reach and was back on its feet and approaching her again.
"All of you, get away from me!" She ordered the knights to leave so that they wouldn't get caught up in the crossfire.
Rui ran away from the knights and told them to run in the opposite direction of her. As expected, the dragon didn't care about them and chased after Rui. The dragon couldn't have made it clearer that it didn't care about the other knights and was only targeting her.
Rui jumped to the side as the dragon's massive body came crashing down on top of her again. The icy ground shattered upon its weight, sending shards everywhere, a few of which hit her.
Rui received a bunch of small scratches and cuts from the ice shards. Freezing cold blood trickled out of the small cuts and quickly froze solid in a matter of seconds, clotting the cut they came out of.
The dragon rolled over back onto its fours and swiped at Rui with its front claws. Rui jumped back to dodge the attack and returned some at the dragon. The ice shattered harmlessly when they came into contact with the dragon's body.
Rui tried moving back more but her ribs suddenly erupted in pain. "Argh! D*mn it..." She had been moving around too much and the pain was starting to get worse. At this point, she might die from her injuries before the three knights would make it back with a new siege weapon.
'You have roughly one minute left. After that, I need to stop lending you my power, or else your body will turn into ice,' the voice told her.
"What?!" One minute was nowhere near enough time. But she knew what the voice was saying was true. She could feel her body slowing down and her blood freezing. Right now, she was feeling super sleepy and wanted to close her eyes and it took all her willpower to not do that. If she continued using ice magic any longer then she would freeze to death from the inside.
Looks like she had no other choice. Drastic emergencies called for drastic responses. Rui dropped all defenses and went completely and solely on offense. She raised her arm and shouted out, "Comet!"
'What are you doing!? You're too close, it will hit you too!' the voice warned her, but Rui ignored it.
The dragon flinched when it heard that word and quickly retreated from Rui. A few seconds later, an icy ball of death flew down from the skies and smashed into the ground where the dragon had been a moment ago, creating another crater. The impact shot ice everywhere and one of the giant icicles almost impaled Rui.
'I told you!'
"Comet! Comet! Comet!"
'What are you doing!?' The voice didn't know what was going on through Rui's head when she decided to cast that spell three more times, and in quick succession nevertheless. 'Your body won't be able to handle that!'
Rui felt blood rush up to her throat and she vomited a mouthful of it out on the ground. Her entire body was numb and she couldn't stop her eyelids from falling down. Rui blinked rapidly and tried her best to keep awake, but she was just so sleepy. The drowsiness was starting to get the best of her and she struggled to keep awake.
In front of her, she saw three more comets descend from the sky one after another on top of the dragon. There was no way it could dodge all of that. They've won.
Rui didn't need to see the results to know that and she closed her eyes and let sleep consume her. The last thing she saw before everything went black were a couple of people running towards her with their hands outstretched.
