"TEACHER LUCKY! Teacher Lucky! Teacher Lucky!" Lucky woke up from her daydreaming when she heard the voice of one of her students as she shook her shoulder.
She blinked and immediately smiled at the child. "Yes, Kathy? What is it baby?"
Kathy blinked at her. "Teacher Lucky, are you sleeping, with your eyes open?"
She laughed at the child's question. "Sorry baby, Teacher Lucky is just thinking. What do you need from me, baby?"
Instead of answering her, she asked her again. "What are you thinking, Teacher Lucky?"
She blinked at the question because as if it was a broken plaque that flowed through her mind again, that Jayden kissed her the other day.
Since then, they have not met because she deliberately avoided him.
She was scared to feel that emotion again, that emotion only Jayden can stir. She's afraid that it might cause her heart to be in pain again.
She will not stop caring for her heart and for her overall health just because she met someone who can make her happy other than her family. The happiness of her grandparents is still more important to her.
"Teacher Lucky!"
She blinked and looked at Kathy. "Yes, baby? What is it?"
The child frowned. "You're not listening to me, Teacher."
Her smile turned into a wince. "Sorry, Kathy. What do you need from Teacher?"
She showed her the crayons she was carrying. " Teacher Lucky, which one of these are the color gray?"
Smiling, she pointed to the gray color on her crayons. "Here, baby, do you want us to color my coloring book together?"
Kathy smiled. "I can do it, Teacher Lucky."
"Okay. Have fun baby."
She looked at her student and then smiled as she returned to her seat.
She left her desk then one by one looked at what her students were doing. Some choose the right color, others do not, so she immediately and gently corrected them so that the children are not afraid and nervous when they made a mistake.
After her class, she made the materials that were to be used tomorrow before she went home.
When she got out of the school gate, she saw Kayden leaning against a wall waiting for her.
She smiled and waved her hand at Kayden. "Hey! Kayden!"
He immediately smiled when he saw her and he waved back at her.
She approached him. "You came."
He opened the passenger seat of his car for her. "You said it's 911, so yeah, here I am."
"Thank you." She said before getting into his car.
When Kayden got in the car and when they were already on the road, he kept glancing at her.
"Ahm...I was shocked when you called me this morning." He said. "I wasn't expecting that."
She pouted. "Why? You told me to call you when I needed something."
"Yeah, but I didn't really think that you will."
She frowned. "Why not?"
"I don't know." Kayden answered with a shrugged.
She pouted. "I can't think of anyone to call to. I mean, I don't want to worry my Grandparents and I don't really have a close friend."
"You have Jayden."
She stilted at what he had said.
Why would she call the man who was the reason why she needed to be check-up now? "I don't want to see him."
Kayden glanced at her. "You guys are still not okay?"
"No. We're okay."
Kayden frowned at her. "And?"
She bit her lower lip. "Something happened."
His driving slowed down then his eyes widened while looking at her. "You two had sex?"
"What?!" She could not help but raise her voice in shock and crossed her arms in front of her chest. "No...we didn't. Why would you ask that? You're a pervert, just like him."
"We're twins." He reasoned as if it could answer her question, then the car speeded up again. "So, you really chose me to accompany you?" He grinned. "I'm flattered."
"You're a Doctor and I have no choice."
He tsked. "You're honesty is brutal. You're hurting me."
"Truth hurts."
The expression on his face softened. "Yeah, I know that very well."
She stared at the man driving. There was a hint of sadness in the twinkle of his eyes.
Is he broken too?
She looked back at the road where they were going. "I'm sorry if I dragged you into this. I won't do it again. I just want someone to accompany me who won't worry about the result of my check-up."
"Nah, its cool. Rather than you're alone."
That made her smile. "Thank you Kayden."
He just smiled and then silence filled inside the car until they arrived at the Hospital.
She's nervous.
"Hey, it's okay." Kayden said when he saw the nervousness on her face.
She nodded then they got out of the car and together, then she and Kayden entered the Hospital. He led her to the Cardiologist's Office which Kayden recommended because he was a good Doctor.
"Hey, Doc." Kayden greeted the Cardiologist as if the two of them were just on the street and they coincidentally met.
They're must be friends.
"Yow." The Doctor greeted Kayden back and then looked at her. "Girlfriend?"
"Do you want me to be killed by my own brother?" Kayden replied then shook his head.
The Cardiologist chuckled. "Well, I would like to kill my brother. I just can't find the right timing."
Kayden shook his head again. "You and your bad-blood with your twin."
The Doctor just shrugged and then looked back at her and gestured with his hand on the sofa. "Have a seat."
"Thank you." She then sat on the single sofa while Kayden lay on the long sofa.
She tapped Kayden's leg then widened her eyes at him. "Get up, Kayden. It's embarrassing."
"Let him." The Doctor said as he sat on the sofa in front of her seat and held out his hand. "Dr. Axel Martinez, your new Cardiologist."
She accepted his handshake then smiled. "Lucky Hart. Nice to meet you."
A brief handshake and a small smile before he spoke in a business-like tone. "Well Ms. Hart, I requested your Medical History from your previous Doctor, per your request and the Hospital, he was pissed said I'm stealing his patient."
"Not your fault, man." Kayden grunted. "And you didn't steal her, I did. I recommended you to her and the patient has the right to choose what's best for her."
Dr. Axel chuckled. "Yeah, but he cursed me, not you. Anyways," He turned his attention back to her. "I've read your medical history and I will not sugarcoat it, your heart is weak and it will not beat for as long as you want it to. I can not say how many more years your heart will last, you will feel that. "
"You'll get weaker and weaker. As of now, you look healthy to me, but I won't be fooled by your healthy appearance, that's why you will undergo a physical examination to see how far your heart can endure."
"Okay." She replied.
"And I believe your previous Doctor already put your name in the waiting list?"
She nodded. "Yes." She took a deep breath. "But he said it will take a long time and there is no certainty when that will be. It's been six months since my name was put on the waiting list and up until now, I'm still waiting."
The Doctor who she was talking to nodded. "It will really take a long time especially since you are not the only one who needs it. For now, I have to make sure if you really need it. I have to see for myself to double check. Not because I don't trust him but---well, I really don't trust him until I see your physical examination result now. "
Kayden chuckled. "You're fucked up. How can you doubt your colleague?"
"Doubt is what keeps medicine alive." Dr. Axel then turned his attention back to her. "So, let's go?"
She nodded then looked at Kayden who immediately got up from laying on the sofa.
"I'll come with you." He said and she was pleased at what he had said.
'Thank you.' She mouthed to him.
He just smiled and winked at her then the three of them came out of Dr. Axel's office at the same time to begin her physical examination.
Lucky underwent ECG, 2D, Echo and MRA.
And when they got back to Dr. Axel's office, she was nervous. She fear that her heart condition may worsen.
When she sat on the single sofa and watched the Doctor read the result of her examination, her whole body was cold and there was a slight pain in her heart.
'Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts.'
"Doc?" She could not longer wait. "What is the result?"
He looked up at her. "Compared to your last examination, your heart, ahm, is not doing well."
She was expecting that but it still hurt to hear that her suspicion was correct. "And?"
"Take your medicine on time and don't stress yourself. Avoid problems and being disappointed. It is also forbidden for you to be overly happy because it will affect you. You must always stay calm. Having any kind of extreme emotion is dangerous for you. Avoid all of these because one of them can may trigger your heart to be in pain again. And if that happens, you will have a hard time recovering."
She put her hand in her chest where her heart was. "Will I get better while I wait? The medicine I am taking, will it help me? Or do you have any medicine that will cure me?"
"Medicine helps but it will not cure your heart."
That is also what her last Doctor said. Those medicine can only help her to have a normal life but not to cure her. Somehow it's only for making her life longer.
Her fist clenched. "Ahm...I have a question."
"Sure, ask away." Her Doctor said.
"There's this guy, and ahm, my heart feels weird when he's close to me and I'm scared that it might cause my heart to be in pain again."
"So what's your question?" The Doctor asked in curiosity.
"Should I avoid him too or should I not be afraid of what I'm fearing of?"
Dr. Axel leaned in on the back of the sofa. "What do you mean by 'your heart feels weird'?"
"Ahm..." She cleared her throat. "I feel something when he is close or when he does something that makes me happy but my heart does not hurt. I hyperventilate whenever he is around, my heart is beating so fast when he kissed me, I felt like my heart is about to explode...that's why I'm here because I'm scared what might happen to me. "
Kayden was the first one to react. "Fuck, fuck, fuck." He suddenly got up from laying on the long sofa. "Fuck."
Confused, she looked at Kayden. "What?"
He laughed. "Nothing." Then he looked at Dr. Axel. "It's Jaydee. What do you think?"
"I'm speechless." Dr. Axel looked at her. "I don't think you should be scared of that."
"But my heart feels weird!" Her voice rose and when she realized that, she apologized. "I'm sorry, I'm just scared. I don't want to die at a young age, so I fight and take good care of myself. I won't risk my health for him."
"I understand." The Doctor said. "But that weird feeling in your heart has nothing to do with your heart problem."
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
"It's a romantic feelings toward this man."
"Romantic feelings?" She repeated. "Like I like him as a man?"
"Yes. Like that." The person in front seems to be holding back a smile. "I will assume that this is your first time feeling that emotion?"
"Yes."
"Then it's an uncharted emotion for you, so be very careful. When you like him even more, he will have the ability to hurt you and you know what will happen to your heart then---"
"Hey!" Kayden snapped at Dr. Axel, "This is Jaydee we are talking about."
She frowned at the two men. "Who's Jaydee?"
The two did not answer her but instead they talked to each other and ignored her for a few minutes.
"Precisely my point," the Doctor said, "Jaydee is still trapped in his past."
Kayden let out a loud breath and shook his head before looking at her. "Don't worry, I won't let the guy you like hurt you.
Embarrassed, she bit her lower lip. "You know who he is?"
"Of course." Kayden smiled. "Don't worry, I'll make sure he doesn't hurt you. You're too fragile, so I'll take care of you."
She beamed at Kayden. "Thank you."
"Okaayy." Dr. Axel trailed and clasped his hand together to get her attention, "So, back to your heart problem. Every month, we have a check up so we can make sure that while you wait, you will somehow be fine." He took a deep breath, "I will not prescribe you with a new medicine because the medicine that you're taking right now is okay. Just keep taking it on time and remember the don't s, okay?"
Smiling, she nodded. "Okay, Doc."
Dr. Axel smiled back. "Ahm, I still have other patients, so..."
She stood up. "Thank you again."
"We will be going now." Kayden said then put his arm around her. "Let's go."
She thanked Dr. Axel again before leaving his office.
"I feel relieved." She said while walking out of the Hospital. "I thought it was an another problem concerning my heart, but it is not."
Kayden laughed softly. "I can't believe that's why you wanted a check-up."
She glared at him. "So what? I just want to make sure nothing bad happens to me. I have to take good care of myself."
"And now, are you sure?"
She shrugged. "I think Dr. Axel is right."
"He's right that you like my twin?"
She shushed him. "Someone will hear you."
"So? You've already kissed."
She punched him in the arm but she was the only one hurt by what she did. "I like him romantically but it's our secret. I need to make sure that my feelings have a response before I confess. I don't want to get hurt. I can't. And you know that."
Kayden messed up her hair. "Good girl. Don't be a softy with my twin, okay? You have to be strong because there's a big chance that you might get hurt. "
Smiling she nodded and asked him a question when she remembered something. "By the way, who's Jaydee?"
"Someone I know." He said as he guided her to enter the car when they got out of the Hospital.
When the two of them got in the car, she pointed to his cellphone on the dashboard with its LED Flash kept flashing. "I think someone is calling you."
Kayden turned on the car engine before answering the call. "What?" His forehead furrowed. "No...I left my phone---"
It looks like the speaker on the other line said something scary because she saw how stunned and pale Kayden is.
"You look pale." She commented when the call ended.
Kayden nervously chuckled. "Jaydee called. He said he is going to kill me. Fuck."
"Then we should go to the Police---"
"Trust me, Ms. Hart. Even the Police can't stop him."
She could no longer speak because Kayden immediately drove the car towards her apartment as if he was on a race.
And when they arrived in front of her apartment building, she saw Jayden outside, smoking cigarette.
She got out of the car and was about to approach him when she saw him, with a dark face and with a sharp glare as he walked passed by her and then got into Kayden's car.
And because the passenger seat window was open, she heard what Jayden said before the car sped off.
"Drive before I kill you here and now."
That's when she realized that Jaydee was Jayden!
And as she walks into her apartment, she wonders what Kayden did to make Jayden say that and to make him angry.
Until she took a bath and after dinner, she still had that thought in her mind.
Until a loud knock on the door stops her mind from thinking about it.
Holding her cellphone in her hand, she headed for the door and without any hesitation, she opened the door as she was used to.
Her forehead furrowed when she saw Jayden outside the door.
"I thought you're with Kayden---"
"Do you like Kayden as a man?" His voice had no emotion but she could feel its sharpness in his tone. "Is that why you're avoiding me? Is that it? You like him?"
Before she could answer, the cellphone she was holding rang and she and Jayden looked at at the same time on the cellphone's screen.
It's Kayden.
She immediately answered the call. "Hello?"
"Put it in loud speaker." Jayden said and she followed.
"---I missed you already, Lucky. See you tomorrow. Bye."
She blinked and stared at the cellphone screen when the call died.
She furrowed her forehead.
'Did I misheard him?'
"Did he just say that he missed me already and wanted to see me tomorrow?" She asked as she repeated what Kayden just had said.
She looked at Jayden to ask him what his twin was saying because he knew Kayden better but he was no longer in front of her because he already entered his apartment without saying a word.
She jumped when he slammed the door shut and she could not help but ask herself.
'What's with those two?'
