She didn't know when things got so complicated; she and Perez were-for the lack of a better word-a team. She relied on him to help her complete the task and get her home. She knew his story, his mistake, his fear and personal anguish, and she sort of empathized with him. They shared the bond of soul-deep pain. On the other hand, Ty was a good man, a man who worked hard, took his responsibilities seriously, offered work and a home to anyone who needed it, and he really, truly cared about those around him. Also, Ty was one hell of a lover: selfless, giving, skilled, and...she shuddered. Ty wasn't just a great man, he was....well, he was a man Mari cared about. And it scared the hell out of her. If Perez was going to kill Ty, he'd have to get through her first.
