"Tell me everything," Mari yelled, jumping to her feet in a single, agile movement. "Now!" Her voice carried through the living room and out the open windows.
Perez hitched a heavy sigh. "I think that before I say another word you must calm down."
Mari couldn't believe her ears, about Haven being alive and Perez's insistence on her remaining calm after his confession. "Calm down? Are you flipping serious? I've spent the last year agonizing and blaming myself for the death of my friend, and the whole time she was alive and well in goddamn 1817?" Her voice shrilled and even Ty drew back in momentary fear.
Perez tsked. "Unless you calm down, everyone from here to Laredo is going to hear you." Perez's quiet, patronizing tone grated on Mari, but she knew he had a point. "Fastest way to fail our task is to let La Rosa Negra know the truth about you, and we both know there are people on this ranch willing to sell any juicy information for their own gain."
