Her heart dropped to her feet, and a cold sweat beaded over her lip. She recognized that voice-it was the man from the ranch, the one who drilled her with his eyes and made her skin crawl with the intensity of his gaze.

She didn't know his purpose in ambushing her, but she knew, without a doubt, he would make good on his promise to hurt the little boy.

She closed her eyes and forced her body to relax in his hold.

His laughter rumbled through his chest and into the back of her head. "Good, very good, senorita." His voice danced around the rim of her ear where his hot breath prowled over her sensitive skin. She fought back a shudder of disgust and fear and focused on surviving the encounter with the man she'd been tasked to kill-before he killed her.
