Mari screamed and rushed forward, falling to her knees beside Ty's unmoving form. The beam fell onto his back, and the smoldering wood was attempting to catch his clothes on fire. She stood, ignoring the pain in her side, and ripped the remaining fabric of her dress. She beat at the fire on the beam, begging whichever goddess was listening to help her. By the time the fire on the beam was out, Mari was heaving, her lungs struggling to pull precious oxygen from the air she was breathing.

Tears stung her eyes. Gratefulness poured through her, with desperation right on its heels.

"Ty, come on-I can't get this beam off you and carry you out of here; I can't save you if you don't wake up."

She could barely hear herself yell over the roaring of the flames as they hungrily devoured the room.
