Chapter 33

I placed my foot on someone's chest, and against my will, pressed down to take the first step forward. Carefully balancing the balls of my feet over the slow cracks of the bones. Sage wasn't far behind, completely focused on surviving, with every step he never looked down. Tomorrow stood at the edge of the hallway, unmoving, a statue of himself.

"Come on," I whispered, waving my hands to him.

Due to the darkness, I couldn't tell if he nodded or shook his head, but he never moved. I kept whispering to him until it grew into a shout. To my right, Sage was nearly at the end of the corridor, never looking back. Small bits of fury made my hands shake, looking at Tomorrow, wondering where his soul was. Of all the people to break down in a crisis, he was last on my list.

"What's wrong? You need to come with us, you'll get killed staying here," my words floated through his ears like I was speaking to a mute.
