Morning snuck up on me, creating a festering paranoia. I pushed my ear to the wooden beams on the floor. Hearing the stupid banter between them and the customers. The inflection in their voices, even though the words were muffled, I could tell they were asking questions. When I walked back to the bed we'd slept in, a bad feeling hit the pit of my stomach.

Halo's pillow had a pool of dried blood in the center. I tilted her head back, stuffed her nostrils with tissue, but she shooed me away. Then pulled down the wig she'd named 'Susan' over her head, and rushed downstairs to her new best friends. 'It's just a nosebleed' she said.
