"We have been privileged," Sage responded, in a voice that didn't sound like his own. "He is the one True. Your hand is only the beginning. Once a part of him is inside you, there is no return."

"You're starting to sound like him."

"You do not understand. Since his blessing...I hear his voice in my head. And I obey."

Before I could react, Omni walked between us, helping us move the dead lions. Beneath their carcasses was a steel door with a bronze ring handle. He gripped it tightly, I heard the metal crunching in his palm, and he pulled the door open. A reflection of moving water painted his face. There was an odd carnival sounding tune below, some words, but they were indecipherable.

"You have done well, Doomsayer. This is the third layer."
