Chapter 13

"No good deed goes unpunished," she thought as he viciously attacked her, while a strange black substance started foaming out his mouth.

The military placed him in solitary after that, out of fear. Quinn even attacked the soldiers several times, resulting in their misplaced feelings about him. At this point, Quinn was only around to provide a description of the creatures, whom the Arcane believe to be the caretakers of the egg, or meteor. They tried five times to get Quinn's cooperation, but he becomes irate and uncontainable at every chance, like trying to tame an animal of the wild. Some of the personnel had decided to kill Quinn, or force him into an insanity ward to silence him. He is the only one to have seen the creatures and lived.

All the other victims were promptly disposed of, well, whatever was left of them. Their bodies dumped into a mass burial, and then burned, it was common practice. Purging the truth so they could create their own narrative. When spectators and Roman noticed the flames and fumes, the military explained it as removal of old technology and weaponry that would no longer be of service. Lying to everyone else saying only three people were killed. No one knew the true number of causalities there actually were, or how many comets had already landed.

"Why are we still dealing with him?" shouted No. 5.

"The child is gone, all we can do is take him out his misery."

"Death isn't always the answer. The boy has seen something that none of us can honestly deal with. He deserves compassion. You've berated him into an animal, he needs help," replied Logan, heavy hearted, he was obviously the most frowned upon in the room.

"We need answers before that creature attacks again, and with his non-stop yelling, he'll cause nothing but panic at the site. The rumors have already begun. His brother Hadrian has been sniffing around ever since his disappearance. Hadrian is no fool. His ears will burn if we deliver a cover-up statement about him," observed Clarence.

"You are all missing the point, if we don t know what we're afraid of, what the creatures capable of, what it even looks like, the enemy can kill us at any point. It's bigger than this foolish boy. We can potentially all die tonight," shouted No.4.

Quinn stood up on his own accord and eyed the room murderously, envisioning their brains harshly removed from their heads. His sanity holding long enough to grasp the questions being hurled at him.

"Speak boy, time isn't luxury here!" yelled No. 4.

At that moment, the demon calmly appeared in front of Quinn.

"Ttteeelllltheeemm the truthhh," the demon sang. And Quinn did, revealing the knowledge like a well behaved minion.

"There...will be a king. And four people shall be cursed. All but one in this room will die," preached Quinn.

"Great God of the Eternal, his brain is scrambled beyond belief. This is what that harsh treatment has reduced him to," stated Logan.

"There is no king in this democracy boy. We govern ourselves." replied Clarence. Unable to capture the bullshit flying through his teeth.

"The egg shall burst and a new era will reign in with the King," prophesized Quinn as his eyes rolled to the back of his head and a charcoal color foam leaked from his mouth.

"This is pointless, we gained nothing. Throw him back in the hole, we'll kill him in the morning," stated No. 3.

"There will be no morning...the slaughter begins tonight," yelled Quinn.

"But he did confirm the theory of the egg. It may be true," questioned Logan.

"How much time do we have left?" Clarence asked Quinn, scared to know the answer.

The demon slowly floated out the room with a grin. Quinn responded with his own.

"You have till sunrise...to live."

Meanwhile in Roman's quarters, Cassius and Ryia was brewing magical potions that resemble coffee. Once the steam settled Roman took a sip.
