Chapter 39

True to his word, Jeff had emailed Liberty the letter Maddy wrote to the Baumgards.Sitting on the couch with her notepad on her lap and a cup of hot herbal tea at her side, Liberty slowly read the woman's angry words, summed up nicely and neatly in the middle paragraph:

You don't know how much pain you've caused me, Daniel, how much I hurt from what you and Lydia have done to me.My first impulse runs toward revenge.I want to make you suffer as you made me suffer from your indifference. It can be just as cruel as if you physically stabbed me in the back.My own indifference will not make a dent in your guilt, but if I react with violence, you will notice me and my pain at last.Take heed to my warning, Daniel:I will receive justice one way or the other.
