Chapter 122

Luke paced in front of the dying fire in the living room. He'd texted his boss, Garrett with his location and updated recent events, and to be safe, he even sent him a message on his ham radio from his truck. He'd secured all the windows and doors. What else could he do?

He rubbed his tired eyes and scratched his couple day's growth of beard. Exhaustion began to consume him. He didn't want to go to bed and disturb Lexi; he wanted to make sure she was asleep. He settled into the sofa cushions and let his mind clear and prepare for the battle he expected to come.

Too tired to wait any longer, his sock-covered feet padded on the hard wood floor to his room. He opened and closed the door quietly. Although he knew the way in the dark, the light from the fire guided him to the bed. He preferred to and normally did sleep in the buff but not tonight. Tonight he'd wear his pants, shirt and socks. And he'd sleep on a pallet of blankets on the floor.
