Chapter 50: Friend, Part 1

Bright sunlight streamed in through the window, waking me with a start. Disoriented, I quickly sat up, staring first at the light then down at Timmy, trying to make sense of my surroundings. I wasn't used to direct sunlight after having slept in a cave for so long. Actually, it had only been about a week, but it seemed like an eternity.

Timmy was still sleeping, snoring softly, blissfully unaware.

Then, thoughts of Derek rushed into my mind. Thoughts of the terrorists pointing their rifles at him and Scott, then motioning for him to get in line and shoving him roughly when he didn't move quickly enough. Thoughts of him telling me to run, holding off the terrorists. Thoughts of his arms around me, holding me as I slept.

I had to do something, and I had to do it now.
