Chapter 49: Escape, Part 3

A moment later, the jeep turned off the main road. We looked both ways and no one was coming, so we followed. The road was bumpy and wound its way through the forest, thankful that Aiden and Chris happened to find us. Now I knew the others would be safe. It was still pitch black out so I knew we had plenty of time to get everyone.

Within minutes, we pulled in front of the familiar farmhouse. It didn't look imposing from the outside, but the inside looked like a lodge. Pops stepped onto the dark front porch into the headlight of the other jeep, holding a shotgun. One of the boys in the backseat of Aiden's jeep gave a whistle that sounded like a bird call, and Pops immediately lowered his weapon.

I reached for Timmy in the floorboards as Brolin pulled our jeep to a stop. I swung him into my arms and cradled him to my chest. Within a second, Aiden was at my side beside the jeep. "Who do we have here?" he asked in a loud voice.
