Chapter 66: Feelings, Part 3

Derek stood awkwardly in the doorway, not quite knowing what to do. In the cave, I had slept next to him on many nights, but now in a bedroom alone seemed much too intimate.

"Come on in," I said, gesturing into the room, trying to brush off the discomfort.

He nodded then walked in, but he stood in the middle of the room, not quite knowing what to do. I sat down on the large, round rug in front of the empty fireplace. "Come sit down," I said, patting the rug. Suddenly, a shiver ran over my arms.

"Here, I'll start a fire," Derek said, eyeing some timber stacked neatly beside the red brick fireplace.

"I'm not sure that's a good idea," I replied, then added, "Aiden said that the fireplace hasn't been used in years."
