Chapter 69: Rebellion, Part 3

A few moments later, we pulled up at the stoplight that led to the front of our old school and Mr. McGowan's store. We made a right and we all immediately tensed. Derek was careful not to go over the speed limit. As we drove by the school, there were a few jeeps and two covered trucks out front. I couldn't help but think that we sure could use those, but I quickly pushed the thought aside as we neared the Stop and Shop. Outside of the store, a crowd had gathered.

"What's going on?" I asked, fearing the worst, as I pulled my rifle onto my lap.

"Where are they?" an insurgent demanded loudly. When I took in the sight, my heart stopped. There were two jeeps in the front of Mr. McGowan's store and some insurgents had him out in the parking lot. "I said, where are they?" the insurgent repeated in a thick accent.

"Who are you talking about?!" Mr. McGowan yelled back into the insurgent's face.
