Chapter 75: Choices, Part 2

"Derek, we don't have any badges," I said in a low voice, feeling a bit panicked.

"Well, let's see. Maybe we won't need any," Derek said, moving the truck up slightly. As we drew near, we noticed that the guards waved some guys on while others they checked their IDs. Soon, there was just one truck ahead of us.

"Well, this is it," Brandon interjected. "Be ready in case this goes bad."

A minute later, it was our turn. Derek waited for the guard to speak first.

"What's your business, comrades?" the man in the guard shack asked, eyeing all of us in the jeep.

"Dropping off more ammo," Derek answered curtly, indicating Aiden in the covered truck behind us.

The man with the clipboard nodded then asked, "Where are you coming from?"

"The army ammunition plant in Jeffersonville," Derek answered.

The guard smirked. "That's been closed for years," he replied.

My heart sank.

"They just reopened it because of the war," Derek returned, keeping his cool. "Haven't you heard?"
