Chapter 17

"Rise and shine!" a feminine voice said, a bit too close to Raine's ear.

Raine opened her eyes just in time to see Briana pull back the drapes at the window sharply. Raine raised a hand to shield her eyes. For a moment, she had no idea where she was, but then the events of the day before flooded back into her mind. "What have I done?" Raine said, half to herself, as she remembered Virtra and the Locks of Samson.

"What did you say?" Briana asked matter of fact as she pulled back the drapes on the other window.

Raine just shook her head as she forced a smile. "Nothing. Nothing at all." She just hoped that it wasn't a lie.

"Well, 'tis time to get up! We need to make breakfast!" Briana said, pulling her from the bed.

"All right, all right!" Raine said, laughing. "Give me just a minute. Besides, I do not know how to cook." Raine didn't tell her this, but she had grown up in a castle with servants. There was no need to learn how to cook, but she was excited to learn.
