Chapter 42: An Attack On Magic

‘Why?' She felt herself asking, tears pricking at her face. "Who would do this?"

"I don't know, Kumari," Kael's voice surprised her, causing her to jump, "but we can't stay here. It's not safe."

He was right. Staying here, even for a moment longer, would not only risk her life and those of her traveling companions but also the entire realm. If anything were to happen to the Kumari it would spell doom for the Ren. As Bae turned to leave, she heard a hissing sound. Her head whipped back around in time to watch the Kitsune dart up the stairs. She followed after the fox, once again ignoring her brother.

She watched the fox's silvery tail disappear around a corner. Speeding up, she tried to catch up with the fox. Entering one of the bedrooms, she saw the fox pounce, jumping onto the bed. She approached it slowly, almost scared for what she might see there. She gasped. Following the fox's actions, she climbed onto the bed.
