"Who do you want to stay behind and guard the children?" Bae's father asked. His meaning was clear. He didn't want to stay behind if the realm and his family were in danger. But there was no one she trusted more than her father and the rest of the Seven.

Her eyes met his, hers a swirling green, his a silvery grey. There was a moment's pause before she conceded.

"The majority of the Seven will stay behind. Father, you and Uncle Avrin will accompany us."

Both Bae's father and Adelaide's father nodded their heads eagerly. Bae didn't want to be parted from her father if his time was to be drawn short and it made sense to take her mother's Laoshian mate with her for this particular trip.

Turning away from them, Bae left the library, Armel on her heels. ‘You're hot when you're all authoritarian like that,' his thoughts chimed in her head, bringing a smile to her face. The smile was quickly lost when Adelaide called after them.
