"Where will we stop tonight?" Bae asked after a moment.
"There's an inn less than five hours from here," Armel said softly into her ear.
The word inn hit Bae, filling her with dread but she refused to let the emotion settle.
"Are they expecting us?"
"A handful of protectors set off before us to warn them ahead of our arrival," Kael broke his silence.
Bae met his eye, smiling sadly at him before saying, "very good. Thank you, Kael."
He bowed his head towards her before turning back to look out the window. She could sense his pain in the magic that was coming off him, his aura was darker slightly. She knew that with time, he would heal but she wished she could spare him the pain. Knowing that that was impossible, she once again closed her eyes, choosing to rest for the remainder of the journey.
You know,' she heard in her head not a moment later, we still haven't told your dad our good news.'
