At breakfast the next morning, while the others were feeling a little worse for wear, Bae was excited to meet her suitors. The only thing reining in her enthusiasm was concern for Armel. She didn't want her eagerness to hurt him. She still wasn't sure how they were all supposed to live together.
She considered asking her father about it. She'd never seen any of her mother's mates arguing with each other. They'd made it work. They'd always seemed to be the best of friends. Never jealous... Her mother had always been tactile; a kiss on one mate's cheek, holding another's hand... She had always been touching one of them, innocent little touches that to the rest of the world would have gone unnoticed. Bae couldn't remember ever thinking her mother had a favourite.
She was pulled from her thoughts when Ji said, "have you eaten enough, Bae? Your suitors are waiting."
Her breath caught in her throat as she went to answer her aunt. She smiled softly.
"I'm ready."
