When the time to leave came, Adelaide was waiting for her sister on the front step of the castle, her eyes bruised from lack of sleep.
"Adelaide," Bae said as she came to stand beside her, "I'm so glad you've chosen to come with us."
Taking her sister's hand, Bae led her towards the procession of carriages.
"I'll ride with the other advisors or Talas," Adelaide told her.
"If that's what's you want," Bae agreed with a smile. "Hisoka and Talas will be in the carriage directly behind my own."
"Hisoka?"
"Did you not know? Hisoka promised your father to protect Talas."
"He did?" Her voice was unfeeling.
"He did."
"And you believe him?"
"Uncle Arvin believed in him and so I shall too."
"That sounds like a no," Adelaide replied.
Bae laughed gently.
"Trust is a liberty I cannot afford but in as much as I trust anyone, I trust Hisoka."
"Time will tell, I supposed."
"It will. It always does."
