Kael sighed. In part, he felt relief that they hadn't gained a new enemy but he was also frustrated that there were no ends to Ji's determination.
"What happened to her?" Maindor?d? asked, her tone softer now.
"She was hurt in the explosion."
Nodding her head, the Dixian stepped closer. She rested her hand on the Kumaian's head and released her magic into her cold body.
"It's almost too late," she said.
Kael watched as a yellow glow stretched out from where his Aunt's hand lay through Yìwù's face and then down her neck and into her chest.
"You like her." There was no inflection; it wasn't a question.
"I do," he replied bristly, expecting to be reprimanded.
"That's good," she replied, confusing him. "Too often, we stay with what we know and limit ourselves by it."
He wasn't sure what the appropriate response would be and he was at a complete loss for what he himself wanted to say. In the end, he settled for a hurried, "thank you."
The Dixian smiled at him.
