Chapter 67: We're Not Engaged

Five minutes later, I'm passing my mother a glass of prosecco.

"That took you a while," mother comments, much to our entertainment.

"Indeed." Aileen's eyes are sparkling.

"What were you both doing at the bar for so long? Did I see shot glasses?" She is questioning us.

"Mother really," Aileen is smirking, "I very rarely see Rory, and so we thought we'd have a tequila shot to celebrate."

"What are you celebrating?" My mother's eyes dart to both our ring fingers.

"Mum!" I shake my head. "Neither of us are engaged... You can stop looking for a ring now." As if marriage is the only achievement worth mentioning.

"Oh... well, stop with the suspense." Mother was never a fan of surprises, in fact, she hates them.

"I got a job." Aileen smiled at Mother. "It's amazing; perfect in fact."

"What about Stone?" Mother is not excited by Ali's news. "I always hoped..."
