Chapter 91: Bite the Bullet

Aurora appeared as composed as ever at dinner, but I knew better. She had been crazily nervous that her parents would somehow guess that we were living together. I'd told her countless times that perhaps we should just bite the bullet and tell them, but her face had turned ashen with fear, and she'd told me that that was just not an option.

It amazes me that this brave, independent girl can be so very scared of what her parents think of her.

When we first met, she had wanted to break their rules, wanted to rebel against them, but now that she's done it, she doesn't want them to see it.

She just can't imagine their disappointment.

Even now their rules and expectations hold her back, and she doesn't even realise it. She'd be far happier if she could be honest with them. The guilt is probably cutting her up, and that leaves an unsettled and unhappy feeling in my chest.

I don't ever want to cause her pain.
