Chapter 95: Today is Not That Day

Landon strides confidently into the hospital waiting room, with me at his side.

The walls are a sterile white colour, and the fluorescent lights are glaring down at us from the ceiling. The smell of disinfectant is strong in the air, and my nose scrunches up in dislike.

His mother is sitting in the uncomfortable looking chairs with Ayden beside her.

"Mother," Landon leans down to kiss her cheek, "have you heard anything yet?"

"No," Ayden answers.

Lauren Peters just stares out the window at the car park beyond it.

"What happened?" Landon asks.

"Dad wouldn't wake up," Ayden tries to explain.

He's grateful for our arrival. More specifically, he's grateful for Landon's arrival. His shoulders slump, and I get the impression that he no longer feels weighted down by responsibility now that his big brother is here.
