Chapter 210: An Invitation

The next day I'd had to make my way to my mum's house on my own. Mum had asked after Clara when I arrived for dinner and I didn't really know what to say to her. I hadn't heard from Clara since the night before when she had told me she wasn't coming home. Instead, I'd merely kissed my mum on the cheek.

"I'm not sure if she'll make it."

Maya had glanced at me as I talked to my mum. I continued regardless. "She isn't feeling too great."

"Oh dear."

Angela Contius had frowned before going through to the kitchen to continue cooking.

"Do you need a hand?" I'd followed her through. The last thing I'd wanted to do is be in a room alone with my little sister.

Clara had taken me by surprise when she'd arrived shortly after my brother Jacob. Mum had given her a hug, smothering her slightly, thinking she was sick. We all helped lay the table before taking a seat, acting like everything was normal.

"It's a shame James couldn't make it," mum had said. "Is he okay?"
