Although I knew that he had asked me to marry him that very day, I hadn't really anticipated that he would rush me to the local church. But that's exactly what he did.
It was already the early evening and the church was already locked up when we arrived.
"I think we'll have to wait until tomorrow," I told him but he ignored me.
Kenneth was rarely impatient but this was one of those occasions. He would not wait. I would be his wife before I returned to our bed that night.
Kenneth banged his fist on the large oak door and waited. He was convinced that a priest couldn't have been far. Of course, as usual he was not wrong.
Some ten minutes later we were being led into the small church. The priest tried to encourage us to wait until morning but Kenneth was having none of it. I wondered if he thought I'd change my mind if given the chance.
