Chapter 426: Sleeping Lioness

The next morning, Georgia is still asleep when I leave. I struggle to leave her side, unwilling to take my eyes off her.

As soon as I've extracted myself from her embrace, I feel cold. I lean over and kiss her forehead, craving the touch of her skin against my lips.

Pulling away, I watch as her hands search for me on the bed beside her, only pausing when they reach the edge of the mattress. I don't want to leave. Even now as I stand watching her sleep, I'm desperate to stay by her side.

I ignore the demanding tug in my chest and leave the hospital room without another look at the sleeping lioness.

I rush home to shower. My car is still technically evidence so I have to take a taxi. Once dressed, I grab everything I need and prepare to leave. I pause for a second in the kitchen as I hear Georgia's voice gently nagging in my head that I should eat something before I go.

Obediently, I pop a slice of bread into the toaster.
