Chapter 439: If You Die, I Die

Even though we're at the yard and Kentley is usually quite persistent that we should keep some professional distance at work, she steps towards me, grabbing my shirt in her fists.

Leaning up, she kisses me softly on the lips. It's nothing more than a brief peck and it's over before I have time to react.

She pulls away only for me to drag her back so I can kiss her again. This time, I hold her there, refusing to release her. The kiss is harsh and demanding as my hands go cradle her head.

I can still remember the words I told her when I demanded she marry me. 'I need a ring on your finger to remind you when you're chasing some ars*hole that you have to come home to me. I want it to have the heaviest stone imaginable so you'll never forget you're wearing it, never forget that your life is mine.'

And yet it feels like even before I've married her, she's already forgotten.

"It's my life," I say, repeating words that I've said before. "If you die, I die. If you live, I live."
