Back in the CID office, Jain and Manos sat on opposite sides of a desk. They were both shuffling paper into neat piles, wondering what to say. The silence was broken by Jain, who clicked on a mouse and brought Google up on a computer screen.
"I want to know about this murder he was in prison for." He started typing as he rambled on. Manos stopped rifling through paper and looked at him, silently.
"According to PNC, he was done for murder of a child and sexual assault. A pretty sick pair of crimes, with one named victim. But, it doesn't have much detail. Presumably, it was paper-based and converted to digital quite a while later." He continued to type as he talked, making many typos on the screen. He brought up a news archive from the Evening Herald.
"Here we go." Both officers looked at the screen. A newspaper article from before either of them were born. They read it in silence.
The Evening Herald.
