Chapter 55: Emma

Emma sat at her desk, looking at her computer screen. She reached up, pulling a pencil from the bun she had her hair rolled up in. She jotted down a note and then stood up from her desk and walked out of the room. She casually looked at the boxes in the hallway and then walked into the kitchen. As she rounded the corner, she heard Steven talking on the phone.

"I don't care what time they put it in! It just needs to be in by tomorrow."

He smiled at Emma as she walked in. He pulled the phone from his ear and whispered, "I'll be done here in a minute."

Emma walked over to the teapot on the stove and poured some water in a cup, then grabbed a teabag. Steven hung up the phone and tossed it to the counter.

"So, that was Maggie! Every time I talk to her, she makes me wish we were back at the magazine fighting it out with Gregg and the rest of the writers. Gregg was easy compared to that woman. I can't deal with her deadlines or her expectations. She wants the next edits by Tuesday."
