Chapter 67: Too Close for Comfort

"Kingston Bay!" Charlisse pressed her nose against the colored glass of the porthole and relished in the warm sunlight streaming across her face. When she'd heard the commands to lower sails and the ship heaved to and slowed on its tack, she knew they must be approaching port, but she had no idea it would be the town she had called home for the past three years. Elation lifted her sagging hopes, her mind reeling with plans of escape. The sandy shore around the port glowed like embers in the afternoon sunso close, she could almost feel the warm grains beneath her bare feet. If she could only get Isabel and herself across the bay, they could flee to Reverend Thomas and be safe. Lord, help me.
