Chapter 30: escape, Part 2

Brick walls envelope me and only a fence and bars allow me to see the other prisoners across the hall.

Directly across from me is Charlie. His long blonde, curly hair has gone grey and ragged. He eats the food our guards give him but there is no choice.Eat the food or starve. We need some sustenance to survive on.Nothing like home.Fresh water and fresh food- chicken, lamb, beef, and carrots. This stuff, this slop they feed us; who knows where it came from.

On the other side of my prison cell, on the other side of the brick wall is Ralph. He is much older than I am and he's been here much longer.I haven't seen him but I know his age because his grey hair is falling out and occasionally drifts into my cell.

"Four days?" asks Ralph. That is nothing.I've been here longer than that."Have you asked Colonel how long he's been here?"
