Chapter 37: darkness, part 2

"Again, I don't have a fear of the dark. It's what lives in the dark that I'm worried about."

Dr. Caulfield looked at his new patient and said, "Please, try this exercise and let me know how it worked for you." Dr. Caulfield said as he stood up from his chair and placed an outstretched hand toward Toby to guide him up from the couch.

Toby exhaled in a bit of frustration and said, "Okay, I'll give it a shot but I don't see how focusing on my feet will help this thing go away."

The two men stared at each other for a moment and the clock on the mantle read 7:05."Please give the exercise a try and we can discuss it in a few days at your next session."

Dr. Caulfield opened his office door and guided Toby out.He looked out and saw a stout man sitting in a corner chair by a small table, reading a copy of a child's bible.Despite the unseasonably warm evening, the man wore thin leather gloves."Come in Charles, I am ready for you now."
