Chapter 46: Enchanted Skies

At first, the girl hadn't been able to stop crying, but the crying then changed, within a few seconds, to coughing.'

'Okay, boys, let her breathe now! Step back!' ordered Mitchell, and the two boys complied.

Melinda slowly brought herself to her feet and coughed. When she'd stopped coughing, she cried some more, and when the crying choked her, she coughed again. She wandered aimlessly for a minute; crying, coughing, looking at the crowd, her dress now a mess of wet mud, grass and dry leaves.

Then, something extraordinary happened. The sobbing faded out slowly, leaving room for an orchestrated ritual of breathing. She closed her eyes and swayed her head. Then, she jolted from her shoulders and her head jerked forward and backwards.

She flung one of her elbows sideways and jerked her head even more. This was not an exorcism. There was no devil here to leave any body. It was just something much better.
