7. The Three King

As Liam ascended, a golden voice whispered to him. This was Sigil, his Shyft, and the embodiment of his angelic form. This voice gave off the impression of standing in a great hall, as the single voice echoed through his mind.

"That time is now, the one you have spent your entire life up to this point to achieve," the echoing voice of Sigil resonated through his mind.

This remark was no understatement in the least bit. Liam knew this was his path from a young age. Singled out at a young age, the other children thought him differently and were scared of him. Fierce burning golden eyes confronted anyone who dared to look in his direction.

These eyes tended to flare brighter when he got excited, which frightened the other children and most of the adults. Even Guiding Harmon, head of the orphanage, would have trouble keeping eye contact. This left him growing up very lonely for the first few years of his life, but all this changed within the blink of an eye.

Gra'Nixhas raiders attacked the orphanage and began to kill everyone. They used blood-red soul crystals as they killed to suck up the souls as they left the deceased bodies. The devils had cornered Liam and a group of children.

They had already killed many adults, and three monstrous looking humanoids had them cornered. The largest one was covered in spike-like horns that dripped a red fluid. This monster stepped forwards with a long knife and gestured towards the children.

"Looking at these little dumplings," the large demon sneered.

"Hardly any meat on these chicken's, but I hear they are the sweetest," rasped one of the smaller demons. This one was covered with thousands of small bones that could only be described as finger or toe bones.

"Yeah," the large demon says as he starts to advance towards the children.

"Get back!" Liam shouted at the demon.

"What are you going to do, hmm? You skinny little bastard, I'm going to eat you in..." The demon cut off as the boy's eyes began to blaze, and the boy disappeared.

Instantly, Liam was hovering in the air to the right of the demon, holding a glowing golden blade.

The two smaller demons stepped back in surprise, as the larger ones head hit the ground. The other two left were far less confident after seeing the way the bigger one had been dispatched.

"What is that little shit? I couldn't even see or hear him move," screeched the other small demon covered in ears.

"I think we need to get out of here," the finger bone demon groaned and turned tail, running away with the other eared demon.

As they ran, the sky was filled with a blinding light, and a glowing sphere crashed down into the ground in front of the fleeing demons. The demons screeched and tried to turn and flee, but it was too late. Glowing forms shot in every direction of the orphanage and tore through the monsters. This was the last thing Liam remembered before passing out.

That was the moment that brought him to this one. Eleven years later, Liam stood at the top of the Grand Arch. The uncountable stairs that could only be walked by those chosen to become Enlightened. This was the highest honor and something others attempted, but few succeeded.

Enlightened are members The Three King Guard, an elite group of warriors sent out in groups or individually. They help defend areas of the kingdom being attacked by demons and other foes. They also are responsible for investigating things that happen outside of Hallin-Gra.

Once called to Enlightenment, The Three King would designate tasks immediately, and the Enlightened would leave on assignment. This was because of ceaseless attacks from the demons that stretched the resources of the kingdom. Meaning that there were always tasks for the Enlightened, leaving them very little time for material things.

This didn't bother Liam in the least. He left his old life of running through the streets. Instead, this was the culmination of 4 years of training to reach the last stair of the Grand Arch. He stood before great golden doors, scenes of angelic figures surrounding a great god-like figure with three heads and six arms.

He was Three King of Hallin-Gra, Primus, their holy leader. A halo of light surrounded his bodies, and six wings protruded from his back. As Liam stepped forward, the great doors swung open of their own accord. A warm mist rolled from the opening. The massive figure of Primus was standing in front of his throne.

"Come join us, my child, and become enlightened," three voices chimed in a deep and melodious voice. Primus is Elder Shyft of Hallin-Gra, and our three chosen kings merge with it to become one god of three minds.

"Blessed be your invitation, Great one. I humble myself in your presence," Liam said as he approached the Three King and knelt.

"You work well alone and speed with great potential, yet your heart is cold," speaks the Right Face of Relations. "This could make you become calculated and not attune to proper justice."

"Yes, but he dares to fight and defend those in need," boomed the Left Face of War. "Have heart with this one, life was not easy, and he has come so far."

"Only time will be the true test of his destiny, raise yourself to me, my son, for you have a task," Spoke the Central Face of Honor. "A star has fallen in the south, and you must investigate this disturbance."

"A star?" Liam asked confusedly. He was expecting to be sent to the battle lines, not to the south with the savage dragons and the mischievous Fae.

"We are not truly sure what it is, but it fell from higher then anything could fly. Please investigate and capture whatever fell before Listria or Aegis send people to investigate as well. We know you want to fight the demons, but this is important," the Three King said.

Liam knelt once more in front of his great King. This path wasn't part of his planing, but destiny hardly ever asks what you want.

The Three King stepped forward and wrapped him in all six hands, forming a golden cocoon. With this, the King took in a deep breath and held the now glowing sphere to the south and blew. Liam began to streak towards the south to find the fallen star.
