Indecisiveness

A week later, Mateo heard someone knocking on the door and asked who it was.

"Are you uncle Mateo?" a voice said.

Mateo stood up. "Who are you?"

"I'm Gabriel. Nice to meet you uncle Mateo!"

"You must be Valentina's son."

"Can you open the door uncle?" Gabriel asked.

Mateo answered, "I'm sorry, I can't. Your mother locked it."

"Uncle, I heard you are having a fight with mother."

Mateo sat on the ground. "She wanted me to marry Lucy."

"Don't you want to? Aunt Lucy is really pretty!" Gabriel said.

"Gabriel, I have someone who I love already."

"Who is the lucky woman that got my uncle's heart?"

"Her name's Mia. She's the queen of the Water kingdom."

Gabriel responded, "Then mother shouldn't let Uncle marry Aunt Lucy if uncle loves someone else."

Tears started falling from Mateo's eyes. "Your mother told me that if I don't, she'd kill Mia."

"Mother said that? Mother is too cruel!"

"There's nothing I can do. It's either I marry her or Mia will die."

"Don't cry, uncle! Although I can't be there to give you a hug, I'll try to convince mother!"

"Thank you, Gabriel."

After a short chat, Gabriel went to his mother and asked her why she is letting Mateo marry Lucy. Valentina then told him that he was still too young to understand.

Gabriel stomped his foot. "No! Uncle has his own love! You should let him be with her!"

Valentina kneeled down. "Gabriel, not all people are meant for each other."

Gabriel pointed at his mother. "You're the one stopping them!"

"Gabriel, don't get on my nerves."

"You only care about yourself!" Gabriel shouted as he ran away.

Three days later...

Mateo told Valentina that he'd marry Lucy if she'd let him go to the water kingdom first. Valentina then smiled and agreed to his condition.

A few hours later, when Mateo arrived at the Water kingdom, Mia smiled at him and told him how much she missed him. Mateo then looked at the floor and told her to not call him Sebastian starting from this day onwards.

Mia chuckled. "Then what's the problem, Mateo?"

Mateo took a few steps back. "Mia, let's end our relationship."

As soon as the queen heard that, she froze. They were about to get married in a few months yet he ended his relationship with her. She couldn't figure out the reason why Mateo wanted to end their relationship. She loved him, but he didn't love her as much as she did.

"What?" Mia said as tears started falling from her face.

"I said let's break up."

"That's it? That's all you are going to say?"

"I'm going to marry Lucy and I don't love you anymore."

"You just came here to tell me that?"

"Here," Mateo said as he handed her the wedding invitation.

The queen then asked if he was really getting married. Mateo nodded and told her that he was so it's best if she doesn't bother him anymore.

Mia looked at the ceiling and smiled. "You said you'd keep your promise."

"Well I broke it, I'm sorry."

"Look at me and tell me you don't love me."

"I don't love you anymore."

Mia slapped him. "I said look at me!"

Mateo looked at her straight in the eye. "I don't love you, Mia."

As soon as he saw more tears falling from her eyes, his heart ached. He wanted to be the one to ease the pain in her heart, not the one to make it worse. He wanted to hug her and tell her how much he loved her, but he couldn't. For the sake of her safety, he had to follow his sister.

The queen wiped her tears. "Leave."

Mateo responded, "I just arrived. Let's have a cup of tea."

"I said leave!" the queen shouted.

"I'll give you some space then," Mateo said as he went out.

When they arrived at the Earth kingdom, a servant informed that Princess Lucy has arrived. Valentina and Mateo then headed to the dining hall to meet the princess.

Lucy brought out her hand. "Nice to meet you, Mateo."

Lucy, the princess of the Wind kingdom, isn't the type of person people expect her to be. As a princess, she's suppose to have all the good qualities, but she's the exact opposite. She's arrogant, disdainful and selfish. When she wants something, she'll always be sure to get it.

Mateo shook her hand. "Nice to meet you too, Lucy."

Valentina said, "It's great that your getting along with each other."

Lucy smiled. "Valentina, I've decided to marry Mateo."

Mateo responded, "You just met me today."

"I've watched over you a hundred times."

"Well, I just met you personally today."

"That's fine. The wedding can be held four days from now."

"That's great! Then you can sleep in the guest room for the meantime," the queen responded.

"Thank you, Valentina," Lucy said.

"You must've have fallen for my brother at first sight."

Lucy giggled. "That might be true."

"How do you know me?" Mateo asked.

Lucy then asked him if he remembers that they were in the same elementary school. Mateo shook his head and told her that he doesn't remember a single thing.

"I'll remind you then," Lucy said as she sat on Mateo's lap.

Mateo asked, "What—"

"I'll leave you two first," Valentina said as she ran away.

Mateo glared. "Get off me."

"Don't you remember what happened in elementary?" Lucy asked as she brought her face closer.

Mateo looked away. "I don't."

"Don't you remember that we were childhood sweethearts?"

"I'll push you if you don't get off."

"Seems like we need to have a proper talk." Lucy stood up.

"I have Mia, so get out," Mateo responded.

"Oh, I remember her. She's notorious for being my love rival."
